Len and Bob check in at #6.

• “Their balance is very good and they’ve improved immensely since their 2005 debut. When games are close, they do not detract from the on-field action; when the games are blowouts, their conversation does wander, but in a very entertaining way… Bob often tells stories from his playing days that are funny and self-deprecating.”

• “Len Kasper is outstanding and often cites FanGraphs in an unobtrusive way that introduces more advanced stats. Bob Brenly’s greatest asset as a broadcaster may be allowing Len to talk about these concepts without much interjection, although he occasionally produces astute analysis.”

• “Brenly can predict the future.”

They're currently (slowly) doing the same for radio teams. I'm waiting for the day that the Cubs come up so I can submit 10,000 votes in favor of Pat.

Funny how many ex-Cubs broadcasters there are calling games... Thom Brennaman, Dewayne Staats, and of course Chip ("Fisted!") and Stone.

And, yes, Pat is awesome. Oddly, I still think of him as the "new guy" even though I think this is his 16th year on the job. Guess that makes me freaking old.

Still not used to Moreland. Don't know what I think of him yet.

Why does my brain insist that Duane Kuiper has some tie to the Cubs somehow?

His buddy Mike Krukow does.

I'm glad you said that because I was thinking the same thing. I was wondering if he spent a season as one of the scoreboard guys that would fill in for Pat during the fifth inning or something like that, but can't find anything on the Google to confirm or deny. But judging from his bio here (dating back to 2010) he's been working constantly in not-Chicago-land since he retired from playing.

Maybe someone at WGN had a similar name a few years back?

Moreland isn't bad. He and Pat don't have quite the chemistry that Pat and Ron did, but Keith Moreland is far more tolerable next to Pat than Dave Otto or Randy Hundley were.

This is an unpopular opinion, but I wouldn't mind a booth of Pat and Steve Stone, only because I grew up with Steve Stone and Harry Caray on WGN and don't have anywhere near the Stone hate that some people around here have.

I figure I must just be thinking of Dewayne Staats.

Harry used to bring up Duane Kuiper's lone career HR at least 4 times a year.

He hit his only major league homer off Stone, and it would get brought up once in a while during broadcasts.

They finally finished the survey on the radio teams, 30-21 released today. http://www.fangraphs.com/blogs/index.php/broadcaster-rankings-radio-30-21/

Many commenters note that, while quite capable when he served as the color commentator alongside John Rooney, Farmer is less well suited for play-by-play work, which he’s adopted since Rooney’s departure from the booth. Many commenters note that, if the pair have a charm, it’s off the odd-couple variety. Other readers refer to that same dynamic as “hating each other.”

I guess I don't find the Sox radio broadcast that terrible, but then again it may just be in comparison to their TV broadcast.

The Sox radio broadcast is awful. Ed Farmer has no emotion at all and puts you to sleep and Darren Jackson is beyond bad. Makes me appreciate the job Pat Hughes does even more.

How do you find yourself listening to the Sox radio broadcast if you aren't a Sox fan?

My wife is a Sox fan.

I'll listen to the broadcast if I'm in the car or jogging and the Cubs aren't on.

I don't think the White Sox guys are loathesome. They're very much off the cuff, which is different and I don't think I like it on the radio. Farmer also likes to editorialize with his play by play and that's kinda obnoxious too. I have very little frame of reference for radio teams though, so I have no idea how to place them in the context of every other team's radio guys.
