Kind of? He's a huge d. That said, he's a solid coach. If he can figure out his tournament bugaboos (which may be fluke-ish anyway) he could do quite well there. While obviously no home run, it's better than Mark Gottfried.

 

i disagree, Gottfried would have been better. Gottfried is an ace recruiter.

Yeah, people down here are not happy. I would tell people how much many Iowa fans despised him and why they felt the way they did, and while most felt he was a bit of a prick, they overlooked it because the program was doing well. Not so much today (or going forward, I think). There's no such thing a loyalty among college coaches, but Alford is beginning to make a science of the broken commitment.

It's an ok hire for UCLA, Howland couldn't enter the wonderful LA AAU pipeline where I think Alford is more than greasy enough to do so and not compromise integrity since he has so little.

 

His coaching style is very similar to Howland, his ability to recruit LA is the only thing he might be better at than Howland.

 

I have no idea how Guerrero is still the AD.

Goodwon has declared for the draft. WCS is coming back as is Wiltjer at this point. No word on Noel or Poythress.

 

Noel will surely declare and go top 3, probably 1st. Poythress seems likely to go as well... Will Derek Willis make it to campus? Or will he see the writing on the wall and go somewhere else?

Yep, if I remember correctly, that incident more than anything else was what led to Alford being run out of town.

Incredibly disgusting. And pretty crazy that UCLA would even think about hiring him given how image conscious they are.

 

Yes. He basically attempted to use Christianity as a veil to sexual assualt. It's entirely despicable, which is why I said he wasn't a d, he's a huge d. He's just a better coach than generally given credit for (except in the NCAA Tournament, it seems . . .).

Every indication has him making it to campus, riding the pine behind Randle and Lee at PF then seeing what happens with Lee assuming Randle goes pro. Hes a minimum 3 yr guy regardless of program.

 

I dont have a problem with Calipari coming up with a BS excuse for Harrow to play and not sit out

Florida Gulf Coast coach cashes in on two wins, gets hired by USC.

 

According to Illinois Scout Board, the boosters at FGCU were working hard to ensure his salary would be doubled at FGCU. His salary was ~153K

Congrats to him. He was a great coach and is an awesome guy.

 

I don't think there's been a better coach at an elite astronaut school.
