Did you mean away from Carver Hawkeye? You already beat 4 good teams this season. And Virginia...kind of sucks.

Yeah, that's what I meant.

looks like NW is going to hire Chris Collins. Great hire for them.

Not disagreeing but how is Collins different than all the other Duke assistants that have bottomed out?

because this is northwestern.

Can't fault NW for the hire. But if somehow he succeeds and does great for NW, then he's gone for Duke in a few years when Coach K retires, right? Isn't this like a no-win situation for NW?

That's silly. Having success is a win.

They're 32nd in Pomeroy and definitely don't suck at home. They had won 19 straight and beat up on an average ACC there.

tell NW fans that they didn't win when collins leaves after leading them to a few tourneys and getting the program off the ground.

i didn't think they deserved to be in the tourney and i'm still not convinced they're particularly good, but this NIT run will definitely be beneficial. not feeling good about iowa st's early season matchup with them next year even though it is in ames.

They also lost to almost exclusively bad-laughably bad teams. The last team they lost to at home was Delaware.

If he does great for NW that is a win-win situation for them. It sets up the NW job to be a more attractive job for the next set of coaches they would interview. Northwestern football didn't go back to sucking when Gary Barnett left for Colorado.

Until something really changes with either program, I'm going to continue to assume that every year the home team will win that game.

maybe he's not waiting for any job

Yup - he could be The Mark Few of the East.

I wouldn't want the Duke or UNC jobs as a young coach who wasn't an assistant on K or Williams' staffs (ask Matt Doherty about that). UCLA is also a potential career killer. IMO, there are "safer" but still lucrative/prestigious jobs that could be out there, such as Wisconsin (which someone already mentioned). There are also plenty of cash-rich ACC and SEC schools that have decent hoops traditions and are in need of a facelift.

You mean something like the Illinois job?

I'm glad we ended up with Groce. Smart's loss, IMO.

Im not 100% sold on Smart's style, personally.

You're never going to be able to beat a team with great guards using it, but you'll chew up teams that have weak backcourts.

John Beilein knows how to party:

"the (grandchildren) came over, we had a heck of a party -- pizza and chicken wings, it was crazy over there. … It was Patrick's (birthday on Sunday), we had subs. It was crazy."

Here's hoping Illinois can go more than 7 deep next year.

ibby was a scholarship filler, wouldn't have been part of the rotation in a million years.

Right, so now that he's transferring, maybe they can go more than 7 deep next year, unlike this year.

Abrams, Nunn, Bertrand, Hill, Henry, Egwu, Colbert, Morgan, Lyle, and whatever 5th year guy takes Ibbys ride. Groce is going to have to play his freshman.
