*(Now, that said, I find myself thinking that IU should be better than 25-5 with this roster . . . but maybe a better tactical coach doesn't land Zeller or doesn't recruit and help Oladipo develop, etc., etc.)

Oladipo yes, Zeller, meh.

And 25-5 in this Big Ten is really damn impressive. While they should've won a couple of those 5, they also won @ OSU and @ MSU

Yeah, you guys got about what you should have out of this group up to this point.

Like some of you have already noted, hard to complain about IU this year from a fan's perspective. They have a couple unexpected losses, but pretty much every team has that. Fans though are quick to focus on what is wrong, not what is right.

Selfishly I want IU to find its way to the Midwest Regional so I can be there, but its not like I am going to be pissed if they go elsewhere. They have a shot at winning the title, been a while since I've been able to say that. I'm happy.

I don't think they will, but they have as good a shot as about anyone to do it.

The Michigan will be interesting to see. Had IU won Tuesday, I wouldn't have cared too much about this one. The game has certainly taken on some more meaning though. The only thing that has really changed for IU is that if they do lose, they go to the BTT with some pressure to do well. Whereas if they were the sole B1G champs, it probably would not have meant as much if they were to lose in the semi's.

Butler? (Though the Butler-versus-Indiana-in-Indianapolis thing mitigates that to me, at least.)

And many, many people did not think IU would get Zeller (including SSR) based on the state of the program. Though, I can assure you, all three Zellers wanted to go to IU, it just wasn't really realistic/feasible considering their family and the state of the program at the times.

One thing in IU's favor, is that they don't have much competition for the Midwest region. If Duke or Gonzaga 1 seeds, they aren't going to the Midwest. Kansas could go to the Midwest, but I think they'd prefer the South. And I don't think the committee would put teams outside of their region just because none of them fully deserve it. Michigan is probably the only team that has a chance to take the MW #1 from IU, and if IU can win there or go further/win the B1G tourney that conversation is over too.

I think Louisville has the potential to steal the Midwest spot. They are probably going to tie for the Big East Championship. I think they are the biggest threat.

Frankly, I'd rather not be in the Midwest if Louisville ends up being the No. 2 seed in the Midwest. (And I have tickets to the Indianapolis games.)

I also have tickets, but have plenty of Louisville friends I could sell them to.

Forgot about them. Isnt the South in Lexington though?

Lexington hosts the first two games (first and second rounds in old lingo, second and third rounds in current lame lingo). There was some debate if IU would get sent to Dayton or Lexington if they do get a No. 1 seed, though it seems like it would be Dayton. The South Regional is in Arlington, Texas.

I prefer "Round of 64" and "Round of 32".

Hell, just beat Michigan and get the MW #1. FWIW, I think this game is much more winnable than @ Michigan St. was on paper. IU doesn't matchup that poorly with Michigan as our 2 best defenders get their 2 best offensive players and they can't really get physical with Cody/Watford.

Yes, that is much better.

not entirely true, since we have Morgan back for this one - he made a huge difference in the MSU rematch with how well he handled Nix

i'm not expecting all those easy put-backs from big handsome this time around (and hopefully we can find a way to contain Air Oladipo)

Speaking as a fan of a team that got one of them, I wish you'd gotten all 3.

Yeah I think Michigan would have to beat Indiana and at the very least get to the Big Ten title game and not lose to Indiana in that game to get the #1 in the MW, probably a #1 in general.

UMhoops did a nice job breaking down the seeding scenarios for the Big Ten Tournament today

http://www.umhoops.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/03/Seeds20Layout1_thumb1.jpg

Assuming MSU beats NW, Wisconsin beats Penn State and OSU beats Illinois, its basically this:

If MSU and UM win:

1. Indiana

2. Ohio State

3. Michigan

4. Michigan St

5. Wisconsin vs. Penn State

If MSU and IU win:

1. Indiana

2. Ohio State

3. Michigan St

4. Wisconsin

5. Michigan vs. Penn State

If Wisky and UM win:

1. Wisconsin

2. Ohio State

3. Indiana

4. Michigan

5. Michigan St vs. Penn State

If Wisky and IU win:

1. Indiana

2. Michigan

3. Wisconsin

4. Ohio State

5. Michigan vs. Penn State

Teams still alive for 1 seed: Indiana, Wisconsin, Ohio State

Everyone except Indiana can still fall to a 5 seed although it would be very unlikely for OSU

If Michigan loses to Indiana, it would take the loser of the MSU/Wisconsin game to also lose to NW/PSU to keep UM out of the 5 seed. Yikes.

Ha ha yeah. Luke was well less than a great college player. That certainly didn't change the fortunes of either Notre Dame or IU.

For sure. I thought the program was too weak for him to commit (thus similar, if not complete, logic why the older brothers didn't commit). But I wasn't the one saying "meh" to Crean landing Zeller; that was you. While it may seem so in retrospect, it was not a fait accompli and Crean deserves a lot of credit for that.
