USC-Chaminade-Butler was close to worst scenario of competition in Maui, but it's not Illinois' fault that that other quality teams lost.

Very high level game, IU was lucky to escape that implosion on the final minute of regulation. The big question mark with this team was defense, and I've been encouraged with it so far. Tonight was unique because they mixed a lot of zone and man to man.

It's obvious that the arrival of Ferrell has really opened things up for Hulls. Zeller needs to get a bit more aggressive.

I was ok with Chaminade because it gave us a bye to UNC. Thanks a bunch Roy

Iowa beat Western Kentucky by 8 though the game never really felt that close. I'm curious to see how they play against Wichita State as I'm pretty sure both teams are evenly matched.

I'm hoping to raise a Cancun Challenge championship banner.

Some dude from Grinnell (division III school in Iowa) put up 138 points tonight.

52 of 108 from the field. 27-71 from 3. 7-10 from the FT line. Just think if he had had a good shooting night! Good lord.

So did they win?

Hollowell played terribly against Georgia and Georgetown. It doesn't look like he's going to be much help this year during conference play. I'm hoping Perea makes more of an impact....and yes, Zeller was very passive in this tournament, or maybe he just has trouble with athletic bigs. He hit important free throws down the stretch, but he doesn't look like player of the year material thus far. IU has so many weapons though...very fun to watch.

In fairness to Jeremy, he is playing out of position quite a bit due to the lack of frontcourt depth. When Perea, Jurkin and Elston return it should help put him in a more comfortable role.

Cody has asthmatic bronchitis right now.

Lol, that was awesome. The kid said he felt like everything he threw up went in. You missed 50 3s.

Indiana with a 36 to 10 free throw advantage. Everyone should get used to this [expletive]

Such statistics can be incredibly misleading when one doesn't watch the game. IU shot all of six free throws in the first half. But Georgetown trailed at the end of both regulation and overtime, was forced to play over-aggressively/foul intentionally, and IU shot thirteen free throws in the final two minutes of regulation and overtime. Moreover, IU played zone most of the game, and Georgetown struggled breaking it down and relied on jumpshots (twenty-six of their fifty-nine shots were 3-pointers). Jump shots don't tend to draw fouls.

Indiana is ranked number-one and is named "Indiana," so, yeah, they are the beneficiary of some calls. But, as a general rule, the better team shoots more free throws, the more aggressive team attacking the basket shoots more free throws, and the team leading at the end of the game shoots more free throws. IU was all three last night.

Besides playing more in-position, the game just needs to slow down for Hollowell (and he needs to realize he's a role player on this team). He's rebounded surprisingly well, but it seems every time he gets the ball he tries to do something and turns it over. Big struggle for him so far. In a way, I think freshman jitters have been apparent in Ferrell too, at least his shooting -- he's thinking about his shots too much and hasn't hit jumpshots with near the efficiency he will.

Only reason it jumped out at me was when I flipped it on late in regulation it was something like 25-3. I was actually surprised it didn't widen further.

agree. Hollowell is trying to do more than he is capable of doing offensively right now. He's doing an adequate job of rebounding. I'm not sure his defense is adequate yet, but it's passable. However, on the offensive side of the court, he needs to make only safe passes until he has better judgement, and he needs to reduce the number of shots he's taking. He just needs to play his role without trying to make so many things happen, else he negatively impacts the team.

Yeah, Ferrell is handling the ball fairly well, is distributing, and is playing decent D. He's extremely quick, but he's definitely not shooting the ball well yet.

Edit - Looking at the box score, I guess Hollowell only took one shot last night....but this is mostly due to him turning the ball over prior to him being able to shoot the other times he touched the ball.

He's the worst, isn't he?

Surprised I wasn't booted for that considering that new Fletcher guy has warned me 2 previous times.

Good news for Butler then.

:clapping: because they have so much more talent than we do. I think Groce is considering just flying home.

I love that he can't figure out why we want the Big Ten to win non conference games. Fletcher has pmed me several times to take it easy on Peoriaman. They are still baby gloving him.

I think it's going to be ugly, and it'll look like a lot of our B1G games with Butler's slower pace. For me, the key is to get Butler to play a little quicker than they usually do and win the turnover battle.

Did Scout permaban P-Man and Nova?

Nope, and now Peoriaman takes shots at Groce in a passive aggressive manner every chance he gets. To novas credit, he is on board with Groce. Yeah we need to try and turn it into a track meet.

It's easy to slow teams down, it's much tougher to speed them up. Playing Wisconsin, Purdue, Minnesota, etc is going to be awful.

It always is. I hate that style of play. Makes my eyes bleed.
