One more day left of DJ watch. He's not tipping his hand at all, and it looks like a 50/50 tossup. Tomorrow could be a fantastic and classic Illini meltdown. Loyalty is already in pre-meltdown mode.

ND sent three coaches including Brey to his open gym last night. I believe I read the Illini were in attendance too. If the kid is thinking about his future, he'll be an Illini. If he wants to stay home, he'll be a domer. Groce has done everything right thus far, and I'd love to grab DJ, but I believe that KBD is the can't miss recruit we are on right now.

If he's thinking about his future he'll be an Illini? What's wrong with ND? ND is going to be in the ACC and Illinois is not an NBA-factory-powerhouse these days. Illinois is a good program, but it's not like he's throwing his life away if he goes to ND.

edit: oh and Creepy Crean just offered KBD, lol. What a clown. It sounds like the KBD race is down to Illinois, Michigan, and Purdue. Painter has been in on him for a long time and has an in school visit with him Monday per Purdue's Rivals site.

DJ would come into Illinois and be the centerpiece from day one. He's got NBA talent and Groce's offense relies upon the ball being in the PG's hand to create. Abrams is more of a combo, so Jackson would be the only true PG on the roster from day one.

As for KBD, he's a kid Illinois cannot afford to lose. He's in our backyard, and we've historically gotten everything we've wanted out of downstate Illinois. When downstate Illinois is producing talent, we don't have to throw ourselves at the altar of the Chicago recruiting gods and beg for scraps.

I think Mike Brey has done horribly developing top players in the past. Maybe those guys were overrated though. Hope DJ picks Illinois, but not holding my breath.

i don't think we're serious players for KBD, there hasn't been too much smoke on that front

ACC move more than likely just paid its first dividend for ND.

I doubt where you will be playing for his junior year had that much bearing on his decision. I think that he liked Illinois, but not enough to leave home.

No getting his brains beat in by UNC and Duke every year was what won him over.

Lol, I sure wish we could get the Chicago kids to be as state loyal as the Indiana ones are.

Yeah, you may be right. I feel like Illinois was far into the lead until the ACC move was announced, but again I wasn't paying that close attention.

I meant more along the lines of not wasting time with Houston, SMU and Central Florida, but like I said illiniguy is probably right.

You mean like Branden Dawson, Gary Harris, Glen Robinson III, DeShaun Thomas, Marquis Teague...? Lots of 5 Star talent leaveing the state over the last couple years. Oh, and Trey Lyles is going to go to Kentucky.

edit: Mitch McGary, Zak Irvin... so yeah, Michigan's whole roster just about...

Let's compare that to Chicago this decade. Granted a lot of that was our own doing as well.

That was just the last couple years. IL also has double the population of IN and no competition in-state (sorry Northwestern and DePaul). Indiana has Purdue, IU, ND, and to a lesser extent Butler (back-to-back NC games). Other than Zeller, all the 5-Star talent has left the state. Lots of 4-Star talent has stuck around thankfully.

Man, Self has lost his Witch Doctor status. Came up empty on Cat Barber, third place behind ND and UI for DJ. It has been a struggle on the recruiting trail for him the last couple of years.

He just took last years KU team to a title game. He's becoming a better coach as he goes along.

Edit: plus it sounds like he dropped cat burglar after the Louisville visit. As did Louisville. Guess you can't steal from the players on campus during your official. Who knew?

I just meant he's had some recruiting struggles, especially with point guards. We're recruiting some dude who decommited from Towson now. Yikes.

So what allegedly happened with barber? He stole from a Louisville player while on his official?

That's the rumor. And louisville and KU both pulled their offers immediately when the coaching fraternity heard about it.

Mike Beasley had committed to some Podunk north Carolina school at some point, don't sweat it. Lol.

And NC State.

Sorry in advance for being an irritating fan for a team that nobody probably cares about, but, homer or no-homer, I think NC State is for real. The talent really rallied around the first-year coach Gottfried last year and he has so far brought in 3 All-Americans this year and already the #9 overall player for the 2014 class.

I know this is a big 10 board and I will never talk smack in regards to the ACC or NCSU vs Big 10 or any of their teams, but I love this board enjoy the posters here and their expertise in all sports. I just mainly want to hype them up while they are still an unknown. I admit, 5-7 national preseason rankings are a TAD optimistic. Hope I'm wrong.

I guess you really just have to live in this NC culture to understand the excitement as an NC State basketball fan. We've been bad for SO long. In NC, for every 20 fans there are 12 UNC fans, 6 Duke fans, 1 NC state fan, and 1 Wake/other fan. The UNC/Duke crap is SO overblown and repulses any non-UNC/Duke fan.
