B1G / ACC Challenge matchups announced.

Minnesota at Florida State

North Carolina at Indiana

North Carolina State at Michigan

Maryland at Northwestern

Iowa at Virginia Tech

Nebraska at Wake Forest

Purdue at Clemson

Ohio State at Duke

Georgia Tech at Illinois

Michigan State at Miami

Boston College at Penn State

Virginia at Wisconsin

I like the B1G's chances again.

DAMN. UNC. How do they determine these matchups? Do they try to evenly match them based on what the teams will be like that year, or based on the previous year? It's obviously not random.

It's in large part what's good for television (trying to create the juiciest matchups possible without creating too big of mismatches) and also who was at home/road the previous year. In this case, Duke, UNC, and NC State are supposed to be the class of the ACC next year. Both IU and Duke played on the road last year, so they were unlikely to play each other. NC State just played IU last year, so UNC was the only logical choice. As you can see, both the other two got road matchups against two of the other elite teams in the Big 10 in Ohio State and Michigan.

I believe it's a little of both with no published 'formula'. UNC just lost most of their starters to the NBA didn't they? It should be a cake walk for the Hoo Hoo Hoosiers at the Hall of Calls. Probably won't even be within 10.

Yeah, let's go with that.

I was kinda hoping for a re-match vs. NC State. I think IU and NCSt are basically at the same points in their programs. Really bad teams a few years ago that turned it around quicker than expected. Last year, going into the game, I thought the winner might sneak in the 7-10 seed range in the NCAAs, with the other just missing out. This year, they are a couple near locks for getting to Sweet 16, with a shot at a final 4 both.

I think they were trying to draw the casual fan in. It's easier to get ratings marketing a top 15 UNC team trying to go into Assembly Hall and knock off a potential #1 Indiana team then it is an NC State team, even if they end up being top 10.

They don't do repeat matchups that I'm aware of.

Hoosiers non-conference schedule is going to be tough. UNC and Butler now set in stone. A top 10 and at worst borderline top 25. Probably going to play UCLA (top 25 team) and Georgetown in Brooklyn (assuming them over Georgia due to history between IU/G'town). The UK game is still possible. Then there's conference play. Should be a tested team, that's for sure.

2008 and 2009, Michigan St. and UNC played in the challenge.

06 and 07 for Ohio St. v. UNC.

Ok, twice out of how many years X teams involved? Nobody wants to see IU and NC St. except maybe NC St. fans hoping to upset IU. Whenver IU is on top they're going to be getting UNC/Duke because of the money involved.

Northwestern has played Georgia Tech for the last 2 years.

Ok... teams play repeat opponents.... that's kind of lame, and nobody wants to see an IU / NC St. rematch...

Except Illinois has played Maryland 8 billion times.

Why you getting your panties in a bunch? Nobody is trying to rub in your face that you were wrong. And I think plenty of people would want to see a matchup of top 10 teams if IU and NC St. both happen to be that in December.

That's just stupid. Why do that? I guess I never paid attention because Purdue hasn't played the same team two years in a row, though we've played Clemson twice (three times counting this year) we've played 8 different teams total. I looked back and Illinois has only played 5 teams (6 after this year), despite playing two additional years.

4 out of the next 5 posts were pointing it out... I was just admitting the mistake. 'Nobody' was hyperbole, but I still think UNC / IU is always a bigger draw than NC St. / IU, unless one of the sides is going to be clearly inferior. Plus, rankings at the start of the year aren't always the greatest.

And I didn't say otherwise to any of that. UNC/IU is clearly a bigger draw that NCSt/IU. But is UNC/IU that much bigger than UNC/Michigan or UNC/Mich St or UNC/Ohio St. or UNC/Wisconsin? Eh, probably about 50/50, I guess. But IU/NC St is about as good of a draw as any of those other teams and NC State.

Not when they played each other last year IMO. I just think there should be rotation and unless it's 110% obvious that two teams are the best in their leagues two years in a row they shouldn't play each other. Even then I would prefer to alternate.

Indiana gets a commitment from 2013 SG Stanford Robinson. #88 or so on Rivals, 50's on Scout.

Oh boy, IU is over their limit in 2012 and 2013 both now. Also full in 2014 despite offers out to like a dozen other kids. This guy is Anya's buddy too, so you can assume by hiring Anya's AAU coach and getting his buddy that he's coming. That would put them 1 over in 2013 even assuming Zeller isn't back. Jurkin better get his ass out and start looking for offers from other schools.

Oh wait, I think I did my math wrong. IU is over by 1 in 12, 13, and 14 now. If Anya comes they're over by 2 in 13, and 14, and have 1 spot in 15 open.

It's pretty obvious that either a sophomore or a freshman is going to leave the program altogether, if it is because of a transfer or because one of the freshman didn't become academically ineligible. That will reset the scholarship numbers. Creek also probably won't get a 5th year, and then they might try to sign Anya as an oversign in preparation for Zeller leaving. If all those happened, then IU would be fine in all three years again. If they don't get Anya and Zeller leaves, then they probably give the scholarship to Creek for that year and recruit somebody else in the 2014 class.

Mark Donnal surely isn't a better recruit than Zak Irvin at this moment in time, but Scout is also under the impression we have two different Nick Stauskases in the '12 class, so what's the use in quibbling
