I think they could go with Ridling in LF and Bour at first at times, but that's not exactly superb OF defense. Look a level below, though. The OF talent is fairly weak in that AA/A+ range, unless Szczur forces his way up. It's not ideal to have Adduci taking at bats, but it beats putting a guy at a level that he might not be ready for, particularly in a rebuilding year.

Francescon really mowing them down right now. I really could see Francescon get bumped sooner than later if he shows well in Peoria (granted, a space would have to open up for him). Not sure if he's rotation long term, though.

Dylan Bundy has thrown 3 perfect with 6 strikeouts and hasn't thrown a ball yet. In his pro debut.

Really wish the Cubs had a higher pick last year.

Francescon really is dominating. 4 IP, 1 H, 8/0 K/BB, only the single and one fly out have left the infield.

I like Francescon a bit, but admittedly, at that level, a polished older arm like Francescon should do well. Not taking anything away from success, though. That said, with a plus change-up, that's something a lot of batters at that level just aren't prepared to handle.

I'd be curious, if Nate was around, to find out how Francescon's slider looked. AzPhil thought it was fairly average in Arizona.

Goldstein is saying that pitch counts below AA are kinda borked up right now, so the no balls thrown thing might not be true. Still, real nice debut for Bundy.

What's Silva's ceiling?

Rubi? Dunno, feels like a positive scenario would be a 2nd division starter. On a quality squad, a positive scenario seems more like a util infielder, as I don't recall his defense at 2nd or OF being that quality. But that's a quick guess/take. Haven't really pondered it, to be honest.

Jackson with an IF popout and a K. Rizzo with a 3-pitch K and a 1 pitch flyout.

McNutt removed after 3.2 IP, 3 hits, 3 BBs, 3 Ks, 0 ERs.

McNutt's pitch count seems pretty high ... 72 pitches.

Liria's in for Francescon. Curious if this is piggybacking or regular relief work.

Edit: Length seems to suggest regular pen work. Here's hoping that maybe he moves fast in the pen.

I had the same question. To some degree, it really doesn't matter early in the year. The starters rarely go 5 innings, so there are gobs of innings for a reliever. If a guy is pitching half-way well, he can pick up 2 or 3 innings at a crack in relief, and by May 15 you can hardly differentiate the starters from the relievers in terms of innings.

It almost matters more as a reflection of how the org projects a guy.

Good outing for Jokisch, nice to see Zych and Antigua and Cabrera and Beliveau do well.

My guy Cruz was bad.

Will look forward to UK's scouting on Francescon.

Vitters with another walk.

:-s

I'm going to sell out my principles and use ST stats because I want to believe this is real.

Between ST and the first two games at Iowa, Vitters has an isod on the year of .152

I really want to get excited about a potential breakthrough by Vitters. Too bad he can barely field 3B.

Perhaps try him in corner outfield spot. We don't have anything resembling a corner outfield prospect. The closest we have is Reggie Golden and who knows when/if he'll have his breakthrough.

Sadly or not, he's improved. I remember seeing him a few years back, and he was pretty dang awful. I think you could probably get away with him at 3rd for a tiny bit, but in the end, his bat needs to play.

Moving a third baseman to the OF reminds me of the David Kelton situation for some reason. Ugh ... talk about a guy who was just not meant to play OF.

Wasn't the word after last year that Vitters had made strides defensively, and was now a passable/decent defender there? Or am I just making that up?

I believe passable would be the better word, but yes, that was the story last year.
