Who the hell was arguing for that besides WSR?

rob was saying he wished we'd held onto him until closer to the deadline; you seem dissatisfied with the trade for reasons that aren't completely clear.

And I stand by it. Bowden was most likely a Cub regardless of the outcome of this trade. I have to imagine the Cubs would have had waiver priority.

So the outcome is really a PTBNL for picking up what looks to be almost the entirety of Byrds contract? Unless the PTBNL is some sort of "last year's draft pick" situation, I have to imagine this is just marginally better than letting Byrd play out the contract. With stakes like that, I'd rather roll the die and hope another team needs a CF closer to the deadline.

I think the whole AL has wavier priority over the Cubs, or is that just the mid-season waiver deadline?

Damn, you're right. I forgot about that archaic rule.

The trade is somewhat better with that in mind, though I'm still not gonna say I'm enthused. I guess we'll see who the PTBNL is.

Are you disagreeing with him? Honest question.

Lopez DFA'd to make room for Bowden. Nice.

I like the deal. We flipped Boston the Byrd!

We added a couple of players that might be useful, trade chips or worthless but holding Byrd gets us nothing.

In the clips I've seen, Bowden has a funky motion, works in the low-to-mid 90s, and has a decent slider. Sveum also mentioned an effective split-finger. I'm kind of excited to see if he can make something of himself with this new opportunity.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned that it's nice to see that we still have a relationship with Boston that's good enough to agree to a trade. Obviously, they are trading for the present while we're collecting pieces, but its still nice to see that Larry hasn't imposed a trade embargo.

What was done to bring about any animosity anyway?

I'm still wondering why we haven't settled our compensation with the Pads more than why Boston will still trade with us. Edited by davell

Theo's old boss was fairly unhappy with the compensation process.

They got Byrd practically for free and gave up a guy they DFA. Why would they be pissed?

Pretty sure he was talking about the compensation process for Theo coming to the Cubs.
