Didn't know where to put this (or if it's being talked about elsewhere), but the Cubs are ending their partnership with Old Style and are going to be serving Goose Island starting next season.

I didn't know Goose Island was owned by A-B, but still... that's a nice improvement. I'd very much enjoy drinking a 312 during a baseball game with perfect weather.

They are ending their marketing partnership, but that doesn't mean they won't still sell Old Style at the ballpark. 312 is a decent enough beer, but I would really miss Old Style if they don't offer it anymore. I sure as hell won't be drinking Bud or Bud Light.

For the record I know Goose Island is probably on draft everywhere you go in Chicago for you locals, but down here it's considered a solid craft beer and lots of people enjoy it quite a bit. I'm sure that might be questionable to some Chicago natives, but at the same time if baffles me how moist some Chicagoland residents get over Yeungling, so... to each their own.

Goose Island is good stuff; this is a clear upgrade.

Yes, this is great.

Lord, I hate Old Style. Much like Harry Caray, it's an out of town, sub-par product embraced and adored by meatballs.

not saying you do, cause i have no idea, but it's interesting how may people trash old style yet willingly swig pbr gleefully out of big cans failing to realize they're basically the same beer, brewed by the same brewery (pabst owns the heileman's beers)

but anyway, yeah, definitely an upgrade here

Nah, never got the PBR resurgence. That's on some nasty Natty Ice/Milwuakee's Best-level [expletive].

Now the one minor resurgence I DO get is the "classic brew" Schlitz or whatever they're calling it. Nothing great, but definitely a good ballpark/sittin' around/mowing the lawn beer that I wouldn't mind seeing show up.

Goose Island is an upgrade, but their latest marketing insistence that they're a Chicago beer is pathetic. They are owned by St. Louis and brewed in New York. If the Cubs were serious about offering local craft brews they would have picked one of the many qualified candidates that's actually from here.

Selling out has its benefits, but there are consequences as well. Goose can't have it both ways.

Alright, calm down. It is a Chicago beer brand. It's readily available throughout NY and NJ and for that I am thankful, because it is good and I enjoy it.

Green Line is their best beer anyways (other than maybe matilda) and is still locally brewed even if it's not locally owned anymore. I don't like 312 as much anymore, but I'm not sure if its just my changing taste or if the flavor changed once they move operations. I lean towards the former, but you never know what effect different water sources will yield.

Did they ever start labeling 312 with local area codes and marketing as such? I remember reading that was their plan.

Anyways I'd gladly drink an Old Style at the game, but I go so infrequently I don't mind just shelling out for a nicer beer too. I definitely remember last time I was at Wrigley being underwhelmed with the nice beer selections, so hopefully they get some other good crafts flowing along with Goose Island brands.

They sell 312 in the 212, 201, 856 and 609 area codes.

I noticed I didn't like it as much this summer as last summer, but that's typical of my tastes in beer.

Yeah, seriously. It's from here, it was created here...who gives a [expletive] if it's brewed in other places now?

I have no idea how you can be all beer snobby (i use the term VERY loosely here) about bud or bud light and then be heartbroken about old style. wtf.

that said, if i'm stuck drinking a mass produced domestic light beer, it'll be miller lite or coors light.

Miller Lite [expletive] sucks

these beers all suck.

Because they're both terrible and Old Style has a some tradition at the park along with being less terrible. I always have an OS when I go to Wrigley just because. Bud and Bud Light and Miller Lite are all awful beers I avoid at all costs. I will admit some fondness for Bud Light Lime on a hot summer day though, especially if you're on the water or at a beach.

tradition LOL

and definitely not less terrible

that said, what i don't understand is the wide gap he seems to have between one shitty beer and the other. and again, LOL at the tradition notion

I really dislike all light macro beers, but if forced with the choice of the three big Americans, I do like Miller the best by a long shot for me with Coors slightly edging out Bud but usually behind, "don't drink" most of the time.

If I'm drinking cheap though and have my choice I'll go with the non-light versions of any of those with a particular liking towards Coors or PBR if I'm not in Wicker Park and the hipsters have driven the price up to Craft Brew level.

I don't know...I despise Miller Lite well beyond my typical disdain for mass market beers. Just can't stand the stuff.
