Let's put it like this, if anyone of us here decided to constantly throw our life away to alcohol, we would lose are jobs, families, possibly wind up in jail. He's been afforded every resource in the world to battle his addiction and still makes the conscious choice to walk into the bar. That's pathetic. Don't feel bad for the guy.

The whole, "my life was a mess, but I found God, LOOK AT ME!, but I screwed up again, found God again" ..

It's really just annoying. But whatever Josh, go find Jesus again.

You do realize that one of the major factors in Christianity is forgiveness after sin? Finding God doesn't mean you don't ever screw up again.

You could say the same thing with AA. Going to AA doesn't mean you can't relapse, and if you do, it doesn't show that AA is just a big fraud.

So that's the 2nd relapse in 3-4 years??? I say he's doing quite well and eventually you make mistakes. There's good and bad things to come from this. Bad thing is he relapsed... Good thing is it's rare when it happens and it's an one night thing instead of going on a binge or worse, actually doing coke or drugs.

It's a battle every day for someone like him. I know what it's like for him although I didn't have an addiction THAT bad like he did. I drink, but I've been clean for 2 1/2 years (drugs/pills) and every once in a while, you'll get a thought creep into your mind, "it's ok. One time won't hurt you." but you gotta overcome that.

The 2nd one that ended up on deadspin, doubtful it's just the 2nd one at all.

They're vultures. Daulerio probably had someone following him around offering him coke every 10 minutes.

Probably, although the Texas papers appeared to report on it first.

You are coming off as extremely ignorant in this thread. You have no idea what it's like to fight addiction, you honestly have no right to judge. He has had a couple slip ups, and considering his occupation and the lifestyle that goes with it, that's pretty impressive. A good success rate for rehab is about 20% of the people recovering, it's not an easy thing to do. I have had people very close to me deal with it, so I'd say Josh is doing pretty well. Maybe you should get your facts straight before you get on a roll that ends up making you look like an idiot.

Hater's gonna hate.

You're not special. Everyone has had someone they know battle an addiction. I've seen people I know lose their families, jobs, (not be able to get a new job once they have stuff on their record). So you can save me that part of your speech. It still doesn't change the fact they what I said is true. Hamilton has had access to resources for this, resources above and beyond what 99% of the rest of the population would get in a similar stance. If Josh Hamilton wasn't a phenomenal baseball player would anyone be lining up to employ him? He's had the best treatment programs provided to him by the baseball clubs that employ him.

Yeah, I was talking about the top rehab facilities. They have a 20% success rate, the ones that "normal" people would have access to are much lower than that. Also, hmm, I am not going to go into details of my personal life, but yes I am pretty sure that I have much more knowledge and am much closer to this type of situation than you or most people. So you are wrong, good for you for seeing "people you know" going through that, you clearly don't get it or know it the way I do. You are still extremely ignorant and ignoring the facts that it isn't easy to beat regardless of how high end your treatment program is, especially when you were in as deep as he was.

Everyone has had someone they know battle an addiction.

Does everyone who battles an addiction have to do it under the spotlight of news organizations pointing out each slip up?

When you author a book, detailing your triumph over addiction, are not you at least partly responsible for part of that spotlight?

At least he can write part II now.

Most addicts would kill to have Hamilton's success rate if it's truly been 2 relapses in 3 years and they were just a one night drinking binge. So yeah, he might have some knowledge about his addiction that some people would want to have.

Mabye he'll write it with his solid gold pen, on diamond-encrusted paper. Because he's very wealthy from being a phenomenal baseball player.

It will probably make for a pretty good movie when he does.

Jeez, Theo - did Josh Hamilton pork your girlfriend?

Seriously, big deal - he slipped. He will be fighting addiction for the rest of his life and this is really a minor issue. Kudos to Hamilton for reaching out and trying to keep other people from making the same mistakes he made.

Look, I think as a Christian - my faith is a private relationship. I have a responsibility to act as Christlike as possible, but I don't believe in brow-beating and jamming things down people's throat. I don't really condone people who have "fallen short" parading that fact - it doesn't have to be done in a church atmosphere to be effective.

I also know that it isn't my place to judge Josh Hamilton, or anyone else. If they guy feels convicted to tell Church going people that he was a drug addict and something awesome happened in his life, so be it. He isn't perfect and is likely going to slip again. This does not make him anything but human. Remember that.

Seems like a legit reason to hate on him. It's not like they let guys who have experienced relapses lead AA meetings.

Theo, you're an idiot who knows literally nothing about addictions. I'm not attacking the post, I'm attacking the poster, and you deserve it.

The book does not detail a triumph over addiction.

From what I understand, Hamilton says that he has failed (relapsed) and struggles with that. In no way does he ever say that he is "cured" from addiction. I'm going to read it.
