Just came across this:

Seau is the 8th member of the Chargers '94 Super Bowl team to pass.

Yeesh.

this is like a Final Destination situation; Natrome Means and Stan Humphries are in padded rooms right now, incapable of sleep

Yep. Started with Rodney Culver who died in the ValuJet crash in the FL Everglades in 1996.

I think it's 1 plane crash, 2 car accidents, 2 heart attacks, and now 3 suicides.

Drew Brees wants an explanation.

hugh douglas on espn flapping his gums, talking about how he wouldn't put the kind of hit on jim miller in the 01-02 playoffs if goodell was the boss at that time. using that almost to imply that the hit was borderline and that goodell is being unreasonable. it wasn't a borderline hit, it was a dirty, after-the-whistle hit that resulted in the bears losing their starting quarterback for the duration of a single-elimination playoff game.

if anyone would do that again i would hope that they would face a season of suspension at least, seeing as how the outcome of the dirty play severely handicapped the opposing team's chances of victory.

I don't remember it being after the whistle. I do remember it being on an interception return where Miller was hardly pursuing the play and was in no way a threat. I also remember Douglas picking him up and driving him to the ground. I've always hated him, before and since.

I'm pretty sure he meant a brain trauma leading to the suicide/depression/etc angle.

I realize that; Dave Duerson did the same thing so that his brain could be preserved for study. We'll have to see how this plays out.

Sad. The local NBC sports guy is in tears as he shares reports from a friend that is inside the house.

Ah. Very well could be, though there are other reasons one would opt for a non-headshot.

True enough. Duerson was just the first thing I thought of when I heard that detail.

Very surprised that Junior's mother did a press conference already, when she is clearly too distraught to speak. The main theme of her speech was "Take me, and leave my son alone".

Wow at this one -

• In 1998, LB Doug Miller was struck by lightning while camping in Colorado. CPR was being performed on Miller when he was struck again by a second bolt.

The irony with that one is astounding.

I thought it was 1 died, 1 survived, 2 divorced, 2 beheaded.

On the other hand, Eric Olsen of the Saints has a great Seau story that's up on PFT. I'm on my cell, so I can't post it from here, but someone should. It's just a cool story.
