Yeah, you're probably right. But barring the third scenario, it'll be pretty hard not to regard Starlin with some degree of disdain, at least for me.

That's why accusations like this really, really suck (even if they're false).

If he was my brother-in-law or something I'd always look at him sideways, but as a baseball player I'll never meet, if it does fall into that category I don't think I'll have much problem hoping he does well on the baseball field.

I wasn't saying I wouldn't hope for him to perform well, just that you wouldn't find me wearing a Castro jersey or ordering a Castro Fathead, etc.

Eh who cares if a Cubs player supposedly raped a girl? He probably didn't do it. If he was a cardinal or brewer, I'd believe it. But it's our best player. No way.

I think I'd be more upset if I found out Castro ordered a fathead.

In the end, there won't be enough evidence for anything to come out of it and The Cubs will end up giving her a generous cash settlement to go away rather than taking it to court.

yeah i'm sure a major league organization is going to give hush money to a possible rape victim. sounds like a solid p.r. move.

Hush money would suggest that it would have been given to her before the reports had actually come out. cash settlements are to avoid dragging a case to court when there's a good chance that there won't be a resolution. It's all a part of this wonderful land we call corporate america, and sports franchises don't react much differently when their best and brightest get themselves into trouble.

so the cubs are just going to give her money to make the problem go away. wouldn't that seem to set a poor precedent? hey do whatever you want off the field, we'll pay off your victims.

FFS Truffle, it happens. The money is somewhat to go away, somewhat to avoid the hastle of the court case, especially with a 21 year old budding star who already seems to have issues with focus. I'm not saying it's the right thing. It's just how the system works. Rich guys get away with things that poor guys don't because their company is often willing to bail them out.

Please stop.

Don't stop him, he's like a bad SVU episode.

Sounds like the shortstop...should've stopped short.

We'll have to wait and see what she says.

if cubbiebum got b& for being annoying and everyone hating him, i think this thread should be the end of wsr. good riddance, i don't want to ever read anything you have to say ever again.

and i'd be one hell of a hypocrite if i didn't acknowledge that i'll never think the same way of starlin again. devastating.

OK, you know what you do? You buy yourself a tape recorder, you just record yourself for a whole day.

so if the girl reported this to the police on september 30th, how is this just now coming out?

I saw Brett on BN mentioning that it was rumored this fall, but my guess is that Castro wasn't around. The article mentions him heading to the Dominican the following day, and he's supposed to be back for Cubs Convention next week.

Pretty sure he's been back since, though. Didn't Theo meet with him at some point around the GM meetings?

This is all Sorianos fault.

Obviously Hendry screwed up by drafting him. Thank god Theo won't make these kinds of mistakes.

Did he assault her in The Cubs Way?

Hendry's people were still in charge, which explains his overly aggressive approach at the date.

YES

If only Ramirez would have taken Castro under his wing more because then Castro would have just been too lazy to even make it to first base.

I hope you mean your wife's brother, and not your sister's husband.

that seems like an odd one rule to live by.
