drops aren't so bad, but situational drops are. sanzenbacher lost us at least one game with drops, or at least cost us a chance at win or two. and he was a relatively small part of the offense. roy williams made another drop that probably cost us the kc game. drops are big.

And Welker lost the Super Bowl with a drop. The point is not that drops are good or bad. Obviously nobody wants a drop. But you don't rank a WR by drops.

You can certainly rank good WRs by drops (actually, drop percentage), which is exactly what I did.

It's one of the more pointless stats in football.

This is a guy you want on your side.

Great counter argument, or not. How is it any different than rating the defense of a player in baseball soley based on errors? Just as some players with poor range never get to the ball "to make an error"....slow or short WR's sometimes never get in position to make a catch, that a bigger or faster WR would, and subsequently lead to the possiblity of a drop. Your little chart was pretty, but that's about it.

You can put a list together, but it doesn't tell you anything worthwhile.

Report: Knox Out Longer Than Expected

At first, he was expected to be done with rehabilitation in 3-4 months. On Twitter last week, Knox said he will have to wear a brace until mid-March.

ESPN says his recovery could extend well past six months, which puts the 2012 season in jeopardy.

Posted
Not surprising. At least this puts added pressure on the front office to actually address the WR position for once.

I don't know about anyone else, but Knox's injury was so horrifying that I really didn't believe any of the reports. I expected him to be out for a good long time, and maybe forever (or at least never back to what he was).

That was one of the ugliest things I've ever seen on a football field.

When the first details came out about the injury, I figured best case scenario would be Knox would start the season on the PUP and could hopefully help out the last 8 weeks of the season. Bears really need to get 3 WRs for next year, 2 of them need to be really good.

I honestly wonder where this dude would rank on the Bears list if they had just fired Lovie when they fired Angelo.

I could definitely be wrong and I'm willing to wait to find out, but my feeling right now is that keeping Lovie really hurt out chances of getting a great GM

Theo's don't exist in the nfl. There was no top notch candidate they didn't have a chance with.

I find a Belichick jumping ships after an ownership pisses him off quite plausible. There certainly weren't out there to hire, but they could and will exist.

DeSean Jackson will unsurprisingly be franchise tagged by the Eagles.

That's kind of surprising. They were the ones benching him during the season, possibly costing themselves a playoff appearance.

He's one talented douche, but he is a real douche.

You mean specifically Belichick or some theoretical Belichik clone? He was a mediocre coach with Cleveland. His timing with Brady was perfect, but I'd bet it would be quite difficult for him to replicate his success somewhere else. Remember, he won by outscheming opposition with his defense. Now his defense sucks and he relies on his HOF QB to outscore everybody

Yeah, really feel bad for Tommie and the family. 4 month old kid going to grow up without a mother. Very sad story, lost in the Whitney Houston death story.

Just a horrible, sad, story but the 29 year old wife of Tommie Harris has died

That's so sad. And she just gave birth like 4 months ago.

Wow. That is horrible.

Just saw this about Alshon Jeffery...yikes.

WR Alshon Jeffery, #SouthCarolina is training at St Vincents here in Indy. Sources say he's weighing 249lbs + running a 4.88 Forty #NFLDraft

Hahahah holy hell. he's taking the anquan boldin comparisons way too seriously

According to Askthecommish, the Bears are 21.1 mill under the cap. 9th best in the NFL. Scary to see the Redskins have 28.6 mill to play with. I'm sure a good chunk will towards Manning or Flynn, but they've definitely got enough left over to grab whatever WR they want.

I'm on my cell, so I can't post the link, but other teams cap situations are as follows: Cincy has 42 mill, Tenn 30, Wash 28, KC 27, TB 24, Atl 22, Denv 21, NE 21, SF 20, Cleve 19, Jax 15, Buff 14, Sea 11, SD 11, NO 9, Phil 9, Balt 7, Minn 6, Hous 6, Mia 6, Indy 6, GB 5, Ariz 4, STL 2, Det 200k, NYG -1.7, NYJ -5, Dall +5.9, Car -6.8, Oak -17.8, Pitt -26.8.

I wonder where they are going to spend their money if the Colts decide to keep Manning and Flynn is franchised.

At this point, looking at the cap situation of Green Bay, I don't think franchising Flynn is an option. I did see somewhere(SBNation, I think) that says the new CBA allows you to bring leftover cap money from the previous season over to this one and so on. They say KC has over 62 mill to spend this year. I haven't seen this anywhere else and I know you have to be within a certain percentage of your cap as well. If(and I doubt it's the case) this rule actually is in effect, then the Bears would probably have 35ish to spend instead of 21. On the other hand, the one thing that truly sticks out to me is Pittsburgh's cap situation. Haley coming in, new offense, horrible cap number could very well mean they'll have to let Mike Wallace go for a 1st rounder. Unsure if he can be traded for a 2013 1st or not, but it fits what they'd probably have to have anyway.
