Ace sent out a tweet tonight:

BleacherNation 6:15pm PT via Web

Source says #Angels interested in Geo Soto and Carlos Marmol. #Cubs interested in Hank Conger, among others. More soon.

Thoughts? I'm curious as long as Vernon Wells is not involved.

At a cursory glance of Conger's numbers with no real background to work from, I really like his overall numbers (.298/.361/.466/.827) but a 9% walk rate in the minors kind of concerns me. I'd definitely be interested in him for Marmol, and maybe for Soto.

If we're going to shop Marmol and Soto together, I'd take Conger, Segura, and Richards for them. They like Walden though, don't they? Why would they be wanting Marmol? Is Walden hurt or something?

I think if we trade Soto it's tp make room for Castillo, so unless it's a larger scale deal I don't think they'd send both Soto and Marmol for Conger. If dealing with The Angels, Mark Trumbos a name I'd be interested in, assuming that we don't get Fielder or Pujols.

or it's to replace him with Conger....

I think your assumption is faulty.

Trading Soto + Marmol (and Garza) would likely be about using our best trade assets to get as much a return as possible. Not to mention clearing close to $10M in salary for use on Pujols/Fielder/Wilson/Darvish/Cespedes

The question is, how much cash will they give us in addition to a younger player with a similar ceiling to Soto? They have a new GM, and the final nail in the last guys coffin was picking up a bad contract, although Marmols is nothing compared to Wells, but still they might be a bit gun shy. Marmol could end up a steal if the top FA closers are asking anything clsoe to what Pap got, but as earlier stated they have Walden already and what they really want might be a set up man in which case they could get one for a lot cheaper.

Mark Trumbo is one of the last players I'd want on that team. In order to trade Soto and Marmol, I would think we'd need to get some pitching depth back in addition to Conger.

I wonder if they see a Francisco Rodriguez type window for Marmol, given his drop in velocity last year (although only season), his delivery, and his usage over the last few seasons whether or not he can regain his plus FB.

With more traditional GMs, I feel Marmol might be overvalued by them and Soto might be undervalued by them. If they want to use method as far as acquiring talent and clearing space, assuming value has been rec'd in return, I would be all for trading those two assets.

Hey, just looking for 1B options if we can't get one of the big 2. The outlook on the remaining options is bleak.

The problem with Trumbo is that he wasn't that productive in the minors (.804 career minor league OPS) and he doesn't walk much (7% career walk rate in the minors). He's very opposite from the Theo/Hoyer philosophy.

He's Tyler Colvin coming off of last year.

I'm fairly confident LaHair would put up similar numbers to Trumbo.

Thinking out loud here.

Soto and Marmol for Chatwood and Conger, sign Cespedes with the savings

Jackson, Flaherty, and Struck for Gio Gonzalez

Sign Pujols and Darvish

Acquire your favorite cheap 3B

Castro

Byrd

Pujols

Cespedes

Soriano

3B

Conger

Barney

Garza/Darvish/Gonzalez/Dempster/Z/Cashner

Marshall/Chatwood/Samardzija/Wood/Russell

The offense is an exercise in uncertainty, but the pitching is incredible. I go back and forth on switching Cashner and Chatwood too.

I kind of like it. But I don't think that's enough to get Gio. Not if they were wanting Stanton or Morrison from Florida. Maybe add McNutt in there? I guess it's putting a lot of faith in Szczur, in a way. I'd much rather trade him than Brett personally. In fact, if it took Szczur, McNutt, Lake, and Struck, I'd still do it.
