I am so sick of hearing about how so and so is a very good NL pitcher but would get rocked in the AL, or so and so is an average AL pitcher but would dominate the NL. If there is even a half run difference I would be surprised.

Is it still technically before Monday anywhere on the planet now?

In Samoa, it's only 4 am this Monday, so don't hold your breath.

All I know is he was matched up against Bryce Harper in some National tournaments, when they were 15 or 16. If he's been lying age-wise, it started a long time ago.

if we have to eat 95% of his remaining salary, it would be stupid to trade him. he's most likely worth what, 8 mil so far this year? if he keeps it up he'll end up being worth what we paid for him this season. if someone wants that kind of worth, they should have to pay for it.

paying for it and not getting the benefit of it is dumb.

I assume you are talking about soriano.

you pay the cash to increase the talent that comes back in return.

olney makes it sound like we wouldn't get much even if we paid. that's incredibly dumb.

I'm pretty sure rumors have been out there that the Cubs have turned down deals where they pay and get insufficient returns. I remember there was a rumored Detroit deal we turned down because there wasn't enough coming back.

at any rate, there's an incentive to trade him from our perspective, but not a huge one. if someone wants to add significant power to their lineup for a stretch run, they'll have to pay in some form for his services.

it bothers me when lazy idiots like olney say [expletive] like we'll have to pay his salary and accept nothing in return because that is still the prevailing perception on soriano, despite the fact that he'll be pretty close to what we paid him this season.

Doesn't seem that dumb to me. I can't imagine there's a big market for the guy, so no need to "give up much".

I agree, but that has pretty much been the general consensus for much longer than this year though, has it not? That we'd have to eat 90%+ just to get rid of him in any deal has been pretty common knowledge. But I completely agree that if we make it to where a team is paying way less than he's actually worth we should get at least one solid prospect in return.

I think he was saying doing such a trade is dumb, not that Olney is dumb for making it sound like that.

yes. it would be incredibly dumb for the cubs to give up a guy who is an asset at this point for nothing. but olney is an idiot if he doesn't think that soriano could have value to a team making a stretch run. the market will come to us if he keeps it up.

Cubs kinda scare me since they barley lost on Darvish so they'd be throwing all that cash towards Soler.

This statement has just as much truth towards it. Except I'm not sure how barley fits in.

They aren't exactly equivalent. I mean, yes, you could categorize both teams bids under "rumors," but I think some rumors are a lot stronger and more credible than others.

It's a different situation because of the "clubhouse issues". We may not care about them, but the team and the leadership clearly does.

Well, I can't deny that this year's .333 team is taking it *way* better than some of the awful teams in the past. And Bryan LaHair looks like a man who does *not* take [expletive] from boom boxes unless he is okay with it.

Any team with money can go overboard on the bidding, whether they were a rumored favorite or not. It really doesnt make a difference if they have that money because they missed out on another bidding war, they were saving it specifically for this, or if they just have a lot of money and see the opportunity to acquire a top prospect. The question is where each will draw the line.

This definitely does seem to be the most pleasant absolute shithole of a team I have seen assembled.

RT @TBrownYahoo Jorge Soler is going somewhere, but not to L.A. Dodgers are no longer engaged. Cubs, Yanks, Jays, mystery team?

With the Dodgers being announced out like that, one would imagine we should hear a result soon.
