Hello all, this is my first post, life long Cub fan, first time poster.

I received an interesting phone call yesterday from the Chicago Cubs. My wife registered me for season tickets about 8 years ago when I described my perfect retirement to her as going to every home game. Well I might get my wish quite a few years early. I got a phone call from the Cubs yesterday about an "event" for season ticket waiting list members to select their season ticket seats on December 10th. My appointment is at 230 PM, Wrigley Field, Gate K.

Has anyone been through this? Can you give me some insight to how this works?

Thanks for having me in your forum,

Carl

Congrats!

I can't really help you through the process.

I signed up about 8 years ago, and last I checked I was in the low 30k's.

I had originally started out near 40.

I think that you should check your number again. Call the Cubs season ticket office, you may be closer than you think. They sent me an info packet via email and it seams to be the case that if they cant contact you or you do not show up for your appointment, they fore-fit your place in line.

I guess if this is the first time they are doing this, I guess I am going to have to be the one to let everyone know how it goes!

I got the same call, "reminding" me about my appointment. Not only was this the first I heard of it, but when I got my email from the cubs about my spot on the list, it said I wouldn't get through this year. I'm going to return the call today.

Let me know what they say, what is your spot on the list? I checked this morning and I am still 2960. I wonder if the top 3000 on the list get invited.

The Cubs are holding a conference call for season ticket holders at 4:00 this afternoon to ask Theo/Jed/McLeod questions. Len Kasper will moderate.

I'm definitely calling in.

Please do, because I am cautiously optimistic. I think since I am still a ways down on the list I probably will not get a chance this year, but maybe next year.

Tell those guys to get us some more W's!

Some interesting comments:

Q: Plans for middle of the lineup?

Don’t want to look at free agency as the only option. Trades, internal are part of it, too. We’re going to be active in the free agent process – talking with agents, monitoring supply and demand – and will probably sign a couple. It’s important to improve the club defensively, too, and if Aramis leaves, we take a hit on the offensive side maybe, but we can improve defensively.

Q: What is the level of talent in the farm system now, and when can we expect it to bear fruit?

Not gonna sugarcoat it: big gap between where we are now and where we want to be. Plenty of interesting players, though. We’re dealing with the Rule 5 analysis now, and there are some interesting names. We need more impact players, though. To turn a farm system over and see the impact at the big league level usually takes four/five years, but we can speed that up in certain ways. Uses Papelbon as example of quick turnaround on an impact player.

Q: Any players you see at AAA or AA that you could see making the team in Spring?

We haven’t had a whole lot of time to watch the players yet, but it’s a lot of the names you’ve already heard. Brett Jackson, with his speed, athleticism. Matt Szczur, another great athlete. Junior Lake is a guy who stands out. But until we get to actually watch the players in Spring, it’s hard to tell for sure. We look forward to seeing them.

Got my appointment on Dec 1st at Wrigley to see if I want to change seats. I am hoping they show different seats in the stadium that are available to upgrade. Definitely looking forward to it!

Wow. That escalated in a hurry.

I signed up in January of 2008 and I am proud to say I have moved up about 4000 spots to 74093 in the almost four years. I guess I know where my retirement is going.

I don't remember if I signed up in '03 or '04 but I'm at 27996...so yeah.

It had to have been later than that. I signed up on 11/13/2006 and I am at 17095.

I thought people could still buy season tickets at the box office in '03.
