It would have been more entertaining if they just put his top most impressive highlights into about a 2-3 minute film.

Are you kidding? The video featured him roasting a hog over an open fire. How would taking that type of stuff out make it more entertaining?

video removed. sad. I missed it.

You didn't miss much. It was incredibly lame. 20 some odd minutes of boring fluff. It would have been more entertaining if they just put his top most impressive highlights into about a 2-3 minute film.

Yes. It was incredibly lame, hence it becoming an internet sensation within hours and inspiring multiple articles describing it in great detail.

It was him hitting homeruns in slow motion and standing at the plate for 10 seconds watching them while "Sailing" played. It was amazing.

The part you liked so much was about 2 minutes out of the 21 minutes. Therefore you agree with me. :P

Let him go to Florida, then be there when they want to ride Morrison out of town.

I was thinking the exact same thing.

Coming back to this for a brief second, this is the kind of situation that could give the team the arbitrage needed to compete sooner than the financial restrictions would allow. If you could manage to deal Zambrano and all but, say, 3 million of his salary for Morrison, that would give you the flexibility to use Jackson to get a young SP if you wanted. So Z+14 million for Morrison, a package based around Jackson and Cashner for Gio Gonzalez, Sign Pujols/Fielder, and use the remaining money on another SP like Wilson/Darvish. Then do your favorite low cost option for 3B, whether that's Headley or Stewart or Baker/DeWitt or Flaherty/Lemahieu or something else. That team competes immediately, and all the big acquisitions are under team control for 4 seasons or more.

Castro

Stewart/Byrd

Pujols

Morrison

Soto

Soriano

Byrd/Baker

Barney

Wilson/Garza/Gonzalez/Dempster/Wells/Samardzija, Marmol/Marshall/Wood/Russell/Mateo/Beliveau/Samardzija

This is awesomeness. Are people really going to let that grumpy old man influence dumping Morrison? How bad is the Marlins' front office, would you say?

They were stupid enough to demote him for missing a public appearance that Morrison understood was optional, so clearly they aren't above hurting the team to make sure Morrison isn't on the roster.

IIRC, Morrison hosted a charity even for his own foundation and the Marlins didn't really give him a lot of support that they had told him they would, and he felt a little slighted, and the team had to go to a charity event that the Marlins were putting on and Morrison didn't want to attend because of the disrespect he felt the Marlins showed him. I believe it was supposed to be mandatory, but Wes Helms, who was the team's player's union rep, told him he didn't have to go if he didn't want to.

He didn't, they demoted him, and ironically they released Wes Helms a few days later I think.

I think you meant un-ironically.

From a baseball standpoint their front office is pretty good. They manage to field competitive teams with no support and an owner whose so bad he doesn't even qualify as an [expletive].

Jon Heyman of SI.com reports that an executive was informed by the Marlins that Logan Morrison is "off limits."

The executive guessed that Morrison could be pried away for James Shields, but no one else. It's hard to believe LoMo would be totally off the table given the tension between he and Marlins management, but the team also probably realizes that trading him now would be selling low. Morrison could either stay in the outfield or move to first base in 2012, depending on the other moves the Marlins make

Not a ton of info, but someone asked David Schuster (the score) on Facebook if the Cubs or Sox are interested in Cespedes and he replied "I heard the Cubs will inquire".

Ben Badler (Baseball America) says the Cubs are interested:

Baseball America[/url]"]Where will Cespedes sign? Several scouts believe the Yankees are going to make a strong push for Cespedes. The Yankees did have a private workout with Cespedes on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Rangers senior director of player personnel A.J. Preller and international scouting director Mike Daly were also at the workout on Monday, because the Rangers were playing the Yankees in a Dominican instructional league game, though it's not known whether they might pursue Cespedes.

Among the more unusual names to pop up as a potential destination for Cespedes is the Marlins, who are opening a new ballpark and have a new manager, Ozzie Guillen, who baseball sources say was instrumental in helping Ramirez transition to the United States and in the development of Cubans such as Ramirez and Dayan Viciedo with the White Sox. The Marlins haven't done much internationally in recent years, so teams aren't quite sure what to make of the Marlins' reported interest, but several teams have mentioned the Marlins as a serious possibility to sign him. Owner Jeffrey Loria, Guillen and a host of front office staff were scheduled to have a private workout with Cespedes today.

The Phillies and Red Sox have workouts with him next week. The Cubs, Nationals and Tigers are all believed to have some level of interest, as do other teams, though major league need and financial limits will play a role.

There's a very detailed scouting report in there too, but it's premium content so I leave you with just this:

Future: How soon can Cespedes contribute to a major league team? Most scouts seem to believe he can contribute in 2012, though where he starts will likely depend on a few factors. At 26, Cespedes is older than Cuban prospects like Martin, Red Sox shortstop Jose Iglesias or Blue Jays shortstop Adeiny Hechavarria, and is entering the typical physical prime of a player's career. In terms of pure talent, some scouts believe Cespedes could be in a team's 2012 Opening Day lineup, much the way Alexei Ramirez went straight to the major leagues with the White Sox at age 26.

"Personally, I'm always cautious to say a guy could jump right into the big leagues," said an international scouting director. "Talent-wise, for sure, but you just don't know the transition he needs mentally to go there. I'd say certainly count on him helping out at some point the first year, it's just a matter of bringing him into spring training, see how he handles the environment, and if he's not ready, don't push it."

If Cespedes doesn't start in the big leagues, he would almost certainly open in Triple-A. However, given that the team that signs him will likely have an immediate need for him in either center or possibly right field, the odds are good that he will begin his career in a major league uniform. Then again, Cespedes hasn't played competitive baseball since Granma was eliminated from the playoffs on April 2, so an immediate big league job isn't a guarantee.

BA's scouting report on Cespedes the 2009 WBC:

Yoennis Cespedes, cf, Cuba

While Cuba doesn't have as much pitching as it had in the 1990s, it may boast its best-ever group of power bats, even with Alexi Bell missing the Classic because of injury.

Cespedes ended up being one of the goats of Cuba's second-round exit, as his dropped fly ball resulted in two Japanese runs that broke open the game that led to Cuba's elimination. He did somewhat make amends only an inning later when he tripled off Iwakuma but was left stranded at third.

The triple showed Cespedes' many tools in one swing. He has solid present power (he's consistently among the leaders in home runs in Cuba's Serie Nacional) as well as excellent speed, especially once he gets going, although it's hard to get a great time on him to first (4.15 seconds from the right side) because he takes a big swing.

Although he's listed at only 5-foot-10, 190 pounds, Cespedes has a strong, physical build with the potential to add some more strength as he ages.

He's gotta be a lot bigger than 190 now if he's actually leg pressing 1300 lbs

This is from a few days ago from Rogers:

ChiTribRogers Phil Rogers

Cubs are very intrigued by Cuban CF Cespedes. He could become their free-agent priority this time around, if homework checks out.
