Arguing over whether or not Sandberg would be a good manager is a moot point. He's not going to be the Manager, he's already been told that by Theo, and the Cubs from what I heard have 3 candidates in mind already who have major league experience and are available.

Who?

Sveum, Maddux, and Francona i'd assume.

This Ryno thing is stupid. I think Theo already has his guy.

Yeah, I think he probably has a primary target in mind and is giving Quade the proper amount of time to be mourned, letting the Sandberg thing breathe and then announce soon.

Me first jerk? You mean Z, right?

Punch Barrett? Check

Yell at DLEE in front of his teammates for (gulp) not getting to (diving) for a ball down the first base line?

Have hissy fits and verbally blast the player on the field when errors are made behind him?

Yes, yes, Z is clearly a model teammate and not a me first jerk.

When did he say Z was a great teammate and not a me-first jerk?

He is saying Ryno is, which is kinds funny when your model to compare him is Carlos Zambrano.

I forget, but was there a source for Sveum's name being out there or were people just talking about them?

What has Maddux done that everyone thinks he'll be a good manager? I know he's a good pitching coach, but so is LR.

I'm really hoping Martinez instead of one of those names.

To be honest, I wouldn't be upset with a hiring of Francona, but I'm not sure I really want him. I don't know much about his managerial style.

I know he was putting some strange lineups together for the Red Sox this year, at least.

If they hire Francona I hope the put fried chicken in the concession stands and promote it heavily when Boston comes to town.

a better comparison for Sandberg might be Sosa. this Z comparison its pretty [expletive] nuts.

Zambrano told a teammate he was going to retire but then changed his mind, and for this the vast majority think he should never put on a Cubs uniform again.

Ryne Sandberg actually did quit on his team in the middle of the season. But a very large group of people have nothing but glowing things to say about him and think he should lead this team.

1. Z was never the talent Ryne was as a player. Sure, a lot of us thought he could be, but he wasnt. Ryne gets a pass because he played so damn well for 8-9 YEARS.

2. Z's "retirement" was hardly the first indication that he might be just a lil bit [expletive] crazy. How many flake-outs did Ryne have?

3. Name 1 Superstar MLB player that isnt "ME FIRST". Please. Besides, how is this ANY indication of their managerial success?

3a. Z isnt the "ME FIRST" type?

4. I doubt either would make a very good manager, but to try and lump them together as "bad manager" candidates because they both retired during the season is nuts. Its also crazy to try and imply Z is somehow less nuts then Ryne. Z is nuts, Ryne is just too stuck in the old ways.

Yes, he said Ryno is a me-first jerk. Again, hilarious when the model you are defending is Z.

I heard on MLBN and again on ESPN Radio I believe it is

Sveum, Tito, Alomar Jr. I think Alomar Jr. and Martinez might be interchangeable on the list though.

It's closer than you think.

Carlos Zambrano: 3.6 bWAR per full season for his career

Ryne Sandberg: 4.1 bWAR per full season for his career

Well, other people were...and you just decided to jump in.

that is closer. its rather amazing that Ryne is in the HoF and Z will likely never get in.

From the Hawk:

ANDRE DAWSON: All I ever wanted growing up was to be like Hank Aaron and Willie Mays and now I get to shake their hands and be treated as a friend. It's an honor beyond words. We've got a lot of Cubs in this group. Ernie Banks, Billy Williams, Fergie Jenkins. These guys had to go through a lot to fight their way here, more than you will probably ever know. I admire you all a lot and I thank you for paving the way. Ryne Sandberg, who was a teammate of mine for six years and I didn't even know the man could speak until I saw him up here five years ago. My kind of player, never whined, never complained. Showed up every

day, left it all on the field.

Now, find me a teammate of Z's who will echo this statement.

Back on topic, lets go get a solid manager and get us a title.

WHAT A GREAT LEADER

He definitely left all the dirt out on the field. Never took any of that with him.

It's pretty clear a lot of us don't like him much, but he's obviously exaggerating his points to get a rise out of people.
