also, having theo epstein as your gm can't hurt in luring free agents.

come on prince. i apologize for all the mean things i said back in 2007

Players don't give a [expletive] about anything but the money.

money and being extra famous.

it's going to fall through. pretty soon we're going to be hearing about how theo couldn't go through with it and "his heart is in boston", ala urban meyer.

It's been 3 years since I have been this excited about the Cubs. The 2008 season was really cool and then that playoff thing happened. It's nice to FINALLY get the top guy. How many times (from Carols Beltran to Rafael Furcal and Jake Peavy) have we heard the Cubs are the leading candidates to land the big prize, only to have it blow up?

This is one of the biggest moves our franchise has ever made. We are getting a guy with vision and a track record of success. Just feeling really good right now.

This will not happen. It's fait accompli at this point.

This site is going to wind up dead, due to the fact we're not going to have anything to bitch about.

after this we still get to talk about who iwll be manager. and then we get to obsess about whether or not we'll get prince after that.

cubs offseasons are more fun than cubs seasons

I'm pretty sure Cashman was the highest paid GM at 2 mill per year before this. He may get a nice raise himself, but my guess is Theo will still be the highest paid. And I agree totally that his job title needs to read Savior and Messiah.

Never forget:

I still guess that the Cubs are going to pass on Fielder/Pujols. There will be some acrimony about that, though not as much because of the Epstein honeymoon glow.

Same stuff from tweets, but still....

Compensation may not be the main hurdle. One source suggested the Red Sox might even take monetary compensation in exchange for Epstein.

Cubs owner Tom Ricketts is said to have done a good sales job on a coveted gig, causing Epstein to lean that way, according to people familiar with their talks.

Poster on SOSH;

One thing this organization really values is the image of the brand, and right now it's a steaming pile of poo. I have to imagine that outside of the public eye, JWH is absolutely livid about that, and wants to make big changes. With two leaders of the on-field organization now gone, he can do whatever he wants without having to worry about how that will play with Theo and Tito - make no mistake, that was a potential "brake" on how far he might go. There's a mighty wind gonna blow

We have been that since the end of 08.

not sure what this means, but gammons just tweeted it

Beane compensation is not precedent. Ozzie Guillen is

Tweet him back and ask when GM and President were added to Guillens job description.

everyone who bitched about ricketts not spending in last year's draft or about his [expletive] safari should hang their heads in shame. i mean, it's the cubs so maybe all the big-bonus draftees will be a bust and theo epstein will inexplicably turn into a moron, but you can't say that ricketts isn't trying really hard and doing a lot of things that, at least on paper, appear really good.

From this day forward, every time Steve Rosenbloom refers to "The Fanboy owner", he should be punched directly in the nose.

They will lose a game next year.

A game??? I'll take 161-1.

What can his new nickname be, though? "The guy who hired Theo Epstein" seems a bit clunky.

THE FANBOY OWNER HAS PROVEN HE'S IN OVER HIS HEAD! WORSE THAN THE TRIB FIRE CLOWN KENNEY
