To be fair, Heyman broke the Hoyer story yesterday.

Missed that, was thinking Rosenthal broke that story.

It's like Ricketts is this badass bully and he is picking on all the teams for their best assets and if they say no he'll beat them up.

Hey, I made that picture! Hooray, I'm a published artist!

I can't wait for the picture of Theo with a Cubs had on. That will make it real. I like the dream team approach.

Dibs on the first Miami Heat photoshop.

I'm not going to link to the article (because it doesn't deserve the hits), but DeLuca and Wittenmeyer just wrote something about the process possibly going into next week, and take cheap shots at the Cubs (this process reveals their naivete) and specifically "the former Tribune Company Suit" Crane Kenney, who they claimed had bragged that he was "leading the negotiations."

Anyone have any idea if the Cubs are going to have to give compensation to the Padres for Hoyer? If so, how much? It seems incredible to me that the Cubs are going to have to do this twice in one offseason for two front office guys, and it would presumably have to be more for Hoyer since this sounds like more of a lateral move and he's under contract for more years than Epstein.

Was he in full cubs uniform?

Oh, God. I'll turn off The Score tomorrow.

17 minutes for an announcement?

huh?

Until the WS starts.

I heard that, due to the intense amounts of interest of the players and management of the teams involved, the World Series has been canceled so they can all stay at home and refresh internet message boards where there is rampant speculation about Theo news.

At least, that's the assumption I'm working under in deciding not to watch any baseball this week.

Given the precedent for this stuff, I'd have expected us to spend more getting Hoyer than Epstein. As is, we may give up almost nothing for Hoyer and a bit too much for Epstein.

I guarantee Bud is keeping his eyes on this stuff and trying to set a real precedent.

Theo Epstein deal with Cubs might not be done until next week

http://www.suntimes.com/sports/8310536-419/theo-epstein-deal-with-cubs-might-not-be-done-until-next-week.html

The fact the Epstein deal hasn’t been closed reveals the naivete of the Cubs’ management team, specifically president Crane Kenney. A major-league source said Kenney has bragged since September that he is leading this process, despite claims from Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts that the former Tribune Co. executive wouldn’t be involved.

Whoever is leading the talks for the Cubs committed a major blunder by closing the deal with Epstein before signing off on compensation with the Red Sox. That gave the Red Sox’ brass — knowing the Cubs couldn’t afford to have the deal collapse at this point — huge bargaining power.

Is it me or is De Luca mixing up headlines from other MLB writers to come up with his own conclusion, if Gammons had not mentioned a Cubs CEO of Business being involved would this article even mention Kenney? De Luca is an idiot.

The article also mentions an MLB source who said that an annoucement during the World Series would be fine -- on one of the off days.

If it winds up merely taking a week longer than expected, then it's really not a big deal.

I have never hoped for David Kaplan to be more right about something until right now. Announce it tomorrow. Same day that trash article gets published.
