Now if we could just get four more starters, we'd be in good shape.

there is going to be a nice selection of starting pitching in next year's free agency.

Cole Hamels

Matt Cain

Zack Grienke

Shaun Marcum

John Danks

as well as some decent back-of-the-rotation options.meanwhile, the cubs will have dempster, zambrano, and byrd coming off the books.

an offense building around fielder/castro/jackson/soto and a rotation building around hamels/garza sounds pretty good (and extremely doable).

Sullivan's take on Theo bringing sabermetrics to the Cubs.

Be prepared to get pissed off at his misunderstanding of the whole thing by saying Theo would want to let Ramirez go due to lack of patience at the plate (because that's all advanced statistical analysis is about, after all).

From the comments section,

The only stat that Theo needs to think about is which players are dedicated to play the game with heart and soul and that will never quit. Whether that is playing games in the day or night. These kind of players will give it their all 100% every inning and every game. Once Theo finds these kind of players then the Cubs will have a solid team to compete in every game. The bad news is the team right now may have one or two of these type of players and will have to go and find them. Good luck Theo! Your going to need it.

I really wish this guy would start posting here.

IMO, 75% chance this gets "done" today, with done being counted as at least media reports saying it is done.

I'd go with 50%. 75% tomorrow.

My favorite:

What is so hard to figure out???

You get pitchers that dont walk people.... BYE BYE Dempster, Coleman, Cashner, Wells, Samardija, Wood, Zambrano and Marmol

You get hitters that are not free swingers and can induce a walk or two.....BYE BYE Pena, Hill, Soto, Baker, Ramirez, Byrd, Colvin and Soriano

You get players that actually know how to use a glove....BYE BYE Castro, Barney

This guy doesn't even realize some of the players he listed are exactly what he says they need, but adds them to the list anyway.

I never learn. I just always end up reading a couple before I'm like what the hell am I doing?

same goes for comments on anything, really.

people who comment on youtube videos and get into arguments with other weird youtube commenters are the weirdest.

There's no need right now. We have teams being eliminated from the postseason, including a division rival. Misery porn > stupidity porn.

Yeah, me thinks the press conference will be tomorrow.

Isn't there an unwritten (or maybe it's written) moratorium on other teams making news during the WS such that it might distract from the games? If so, tomorrow's the day.

Yes, teams cannot make news during the World Series. So, tomorrow should be the day (hopefully). I would guess, we'll hear reports of a done deal today sometime.

You should check out Shane Victorino's twitter.

Lots of mad stupid people whenever he tweeted about what was going on in games.

I'm in need of a clarification Re: Sczcur. Due to the restructuring of his contract, he will have to be added to the Cubs 40-man in November in order to shield him from rule-5 draft eligibility. If he were traded to the Sox, would they need to take similar measures?

Not all Red Sox fans are delusional. From SoSH:

Sorry but this thread is pissing me off.

1.Theo is not a player. He can't be benched for a year to leverage the Cubs

2.When a person in leadership wants to leave, the employers can either 1. match the offer, show the person they want to him to stay, or 2. negotiate an exit. If they are not doing number 1 then number 2 does not leave them "holding all the cards."

3.If the employee turned down an offer, does no want to return, that too diminishes the bargaining position of the employer

4.Theo is not junior sales rep that you can transfer to small appliances, he runs the baseball team

5.You generally don't force an unmotivated employee in a critical, vital role to stay on.

6.Hard to believe, but there are consequences for dicking around a guy that has done a great job for you in a business where there are only 30 places to work.

So therefore:

The Red Sox are not getting a [expletive] all star or future all-star for Theo.

No, I don't think that poster understands. Epstein works for the Boston Red Sox. The Boston Red Sox are super awesome and can do whatever they want and other teams (especially the Cubs, lol, curses) will bow down before them. Epstein for Castro and Garza or no deal.
