I decided to boycott the Hawks until they played better but both times I turned to the game to check the score, the Oilers scored within 30 seconds.

Thanks for reminding me why I don't feel like watching you Hawks.

yea i barely pay attention to them these days. they've done a good job of making me lost interest in them.

last i checked it was 2-0 now i see theyre losing 3-2. i dont even care anymore. just makes me laugh.

Revised road trip hopes are now 3-4-2 after this loss (losing 5-3 in the 3rd)

I don't know if its effort or lack of talent or both but either way, its not good at all.

wow these guys fuckin suck

the defense and goaltending is pathetic. it was being masked early in the year when they were scoring a crazy amount of goals, but now it's showing. i don't know if this team can be fixed with deadline moves. even if we add D, it's going to be kind of moot with crawford and emery in there.

What happened to their defense?

Keith Seabrook, Campbell, Hjalmarsson, Sopel and various scrubs became Keith Seabrook, Hjalmarsson, Leddy, Montador, O'Donnell. The 3rd defensive pairing shouldn't be enough to go from allowing the least goals in the conference to close to the most within 2 seasons. Looks to me like Keith completely regressed and Hjalmarsson had a fluke season in 2010. I kind of wish the Sharks ended up getting him and we resigned Niemi.

i think the main thing is that the top guys (keith, seabrook, hjalmarsson) aren't what they used to be. especially duncan. dont know what happened to that guy.

So the Hawks have given up 16 goals in 2 games in Edmonton this year. BTW, Edmonton is in the bottom 3rd in the league in goals scored.

Make that 17 goals in 2 games. Should have waited until the end to post this.

-With 8 points tonight, Sam Gagner also ties a Oilers franchise record, done once by Paul Coffey and twice by Wayne Gretzky.

-Only two Raptors scored more points last night than Sam Gagner has tonight.

-Sam Gagner officially has MORE points tonight than Scott Gomez has all season.

-It's the 1st 8-pt game in the NHL since Mario Lemieux on Dec. 31, 1988.

-TSN just named Sam Gagner the game's first, second, and third star. He's a f'ckin constellation.

it's astonishing how truly bad our defense is as a collective unit. keith's positioning is so baffling i'm wondering if he got crosby'd at some point over the last year and a half and i somehow missed it. seabrook doesn't seem to be the same since his clock was cleaned earlier this year. crawford lost his virginity or something in the offseason and is now just all kinds of sucks.

for all of the brilliance of bowman's moves to get us under the cap, he really got fisked on the niemi thing, and now the lack of campbell is really rearing its ugly head. is there even close to his type of talent available via trade or, when we bow out of the playoffs, in free agency? two really, really costly decisions that this team is just not bouncing back from.

The best thing you can say is we're not in danger of missing the playoffs this year. We should really be sitting best in the West though, and it's really [expletive] frustrating.

why should they be sitting at the top of the west though? they weren't really close to the top last year, and they didn't improve in the offseason.

i made a post talking about this in the offseason when everybody in the media was talking about how the hawks were poised to be elite again this season because off all the "toughness" and "fire" that they got, when in reality we lost campbell and then added a bunch of crappy tough guys and called it "depth". the only talent/skill guy they got was andrew brunette, but it seems like he's just too slow to keep up.

the campbell trade was still good, but it's like they didn't even make an attempt to make up for it. it's hard to say what they should have done differently because the free agent pool was weak this past offseason and guys were getting overpaid, but i felt at the time (and now) like they needed to do something else if they were going to move campbell. when campbell went out with the broken collarbone on the ovechkin hit towards the end of the cup season our defense went to [expletive] also. they almost lost to nashville and it wasn't until he came back mid-playoffs that they starting looking like they could actually win the cup.

the organization is still in great shape long-term, but it's annoying that it looks like we're going to waste another year of young toews-kane on their cap friendly contracts.

Well I think the reasons for acquiring tough guys were good. We one of the softest teams in the NHL last year and it cost us. I think they believed by adding those guys it would become infectious and the team as a whole would have a more physical style of play. Instead the finesse guys didn't change one bit and basically rely on Mayers and co to put a body on the opponents and pick fights. We are still a really soft team and it's maybe one of the reasons we've allowed soapy goals this year. Don't get me wrong, the Hawks finesse players are beautiful to behold when it's working for them but against many teams they can't live off of fancy stick work and crisp passes to get the job done.

Maybe I'm talking out of my ass but it sure seems to me like it's still a big issue. Not the biggest but up there.
