I don't see how trading a 12 goal scorer gives up on the next three seasons. I generally agree that we shouldn't overreact to a bad stretch, but taking the long view, is a lazy, one-dimensional ex-goal scorer really necessary at $6M/year?

Kane was just about a point per game player last season. There are maybe 10 guys that were able to do that.

If they traded Kane it would have to be for prospects since no one is giving up an established star for Kane. The 2-3 years represents the timeframe for those prospects to make an impact.

Why is Kane lazy again? I never got that impression from him.

I just remembered that I had a dream last night that I was watching the Hawks and Blues play and it was 4-4 late in the 3rd and Q was so desperate to gain 2 points on St Louis that he pulled Crawford to go 6-on-5 and eventually Keith made a lazy pass that was intercepted for an easy breakaway goal. This damn team is even tormenting me in my dreams.

It's not about that, though I like my scorers more in the bigger, more physical mold. He only works hard in the neutral and defensive zones every couple of games. Too much cherry picking. Too much circling around. You know, not working hard. Which is a synonym for lazy.

I did see on Twitter just now that he told the reporters his wrist has good days and bad days. Guess that makes it hard for him to skate.

Also saw that Hammer missed practice with concussion-like symptoms. I know he has regressed, but we need him right now.

I know you are probably being sarcastic. I do want to respond anyway. You do not have to be a big hitter to be a solid defensive forward. Their are plenty of cases in NHL history where scorers have also learned to be responsible defensive forwards without being becoming big hitters. I personally think that Kane could do a much better job defensively.

I don't disagree with any of that.

Everybody likes big players that are really good. No one has any that they would trade for Kane though.

Here's some discussion on this:

Kane + for him, I don't know. It would never happen though as Kane wouldn't want to go there anyway. The money wouldn't be all that much different, but it's still a lot. I'd say no.

I don't know how Vancouver could make that money work, but if they gave Schneider + others for him, game over.

Though I wouldn't think Columbus would be all that hot on getting back a goalie is the main part of the haul for Nash. Sure, Schneider is good, but so was Mason just a few years ago.

I think Columbus is in a tight spot. They have some talent but not a lot of depth in their system. They have several bad contracts and are even paying a player like Mike Commodore a couple of million a year to be the Wings 7th dman. They have a very disgruntled fanbase. Lastly they have a GM that is without a future. If they trade Nash what the organization would really need is good young prospects and draft picks, which is not what the fans will want. I guess I am saying they really need to fire the GM before they go trading Nash.

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but Foley seems critical of Hossa tonight. Not that he's wrong, though as I said I think his effort level has been better tonight.

Haha, we are really going to go winless with 1 point on the road trip aren't we?

Geez, and we play the Rangers next? Wow hello 10 game losing streak.

better but once again the opposing goaltender out-duels the Hawks goaltender.

*rinse & repeat*

On 19 shots, seriously, some average goal tending and the Hawks would have a victory or two on this trip.
