Damn, the division is extremely bunched up now. Nashville is now in the mix after winning 5 in a row. There are two entire divisions where the leader does not have as many points as the 4th place team in our division. The leader of the Southwest Division, Florida, has 51 points while Nashville, has 56.

Blues 60 pts 45 GP

Hawks 60 pts 46 GP

Wings 59 pts 45 GP

Preds 56 pts 45 GP

The Wings have far and away the best goal differential. Which means they will probably finish 4th

Wow. That's amazing.

Here's what I want to know. Can't the Buffalo players hear Pierre trashing them? That's got to make them feel good.

Weird sequence with both teams repeatedly letting guys get behind them/outnumber them

Luckily our players are better than theirs. A lot better.

Such a [expletive] screw job. I have never seen a team get screwed out of as many goals as the Hawks. Not just close calls that go against the Hawks, I'm talking about legit goals that are called off because of either a super quick whistle, or a ref not seeing obvious icing, or whatever the [expletive] happened here.

I cannot remember any time where the Hawks benefited from an iffy goal counting or not counting. I'm sure it's happened, it just doesn't happen with nearly the frequency of it going against the Hawks.

They are really ripping on Pat Kane in the intermission report on VS. They are right though, he doesn't look nearly as dynamic as he's been in the past - and the numbers show it.

I just got into a debate with a friend of mine who thinks the Blues record is actually better than the Blackhawks (and are a much better team) because the Blackhawks have played significantly more home games than any other team. He also tried to point out that since the Blackhawks have played more games, their "Points/game" is less, so the Blues should be ranked higher than the Blackhawks.

This is the same friend who went into the long ignorant rant about why Ron Santo (or any player from any team in Chicago) should never be in their respective sports hall of fame.

Well, the "significantly more home games" played aside (it's two more than the Blues), he's right about their record being better.

Your friend is right. Points/game should be the ranking system. Hawks would be 3rd in the Central on this metric. Same on the home/road thing. Hawks have played more games and done better at home. The Blues have had the better season so far, but not better than the Red Wings. The rankings are probably Wings, Blues, Hawks...by miniscule margins. Except the Red Wings goal differential which is twice as good as the Blues or the Hawks.

His HOF rant sounds dumb and uninformed, however.

yeah I gotta agree. I was just looking up SOS numbers this morning and the Hawks have played the easiest SOS in the Western Conference so far this year, and have by far the hardest remaining schedule in the conference (I think the Hawks is around .540, while the next hardest schedule is .510). Add in the home games, PPG, and goal differential and its pretty clear the Blues and Wings have played better than the Hawks this year.

That doesn't mean that the Hawks aren't better than those teams. I think all of that has yet to be decided.
