Being pessimistic, but if Hawks know Toews injury is bad no reason to give up too much to go for it this year.

Yeah, I'm all for shutting him down this season. This isn't the first time he's been concussed either.

i don't agree with punting this season in almost any circumstance. when we traded campbell, wasnt the whole point to use the gained resources to improve elsewhere? when our offseason additions consisted of mostly one year deals off the scrap heap, wasn't the idea to have resources to improve at the deadline?

really disappointing stuff from bowman since the cup.

Considering he had nothing to do with the Cup team, I think it's fair to label his entire tenure as a disappointment.

Not sure why you think that about the Campbell trade. The whole point was giving up a quality player in the short-term for cap space 2-3 years from now. Bowman has done nothing for the now yet. He's been in perpetual figure it out in the future mode, then all of a sudden he trades a 2nd and a 3rd for a 5th defenseman. Seems desperate.

why would you build for 2-3 years from now? the window is right now. when campbell was traded, the expectation was definitely that he'd make a significant move either at the time, or at the trade deadline.

I don't think you can purposely waste one of the years when Hossa is performing at/near his peak. While I'm worried about Toews too, especially considering how inept the medical staff has been with Hammer this year, Bolland last year, and others....if there's a week we can afford Toews to be out, it would be this week. Hopefully we get him back (with rested legs) for Detroit and St. Louis starting Sunday.

According the the playoff odds websites (http://www.sportsclubstats.com/NHL.html pretty cool site) we still got a 70% chance of making it, with strength of schedule factored in. Tread water, grab that 6th seed, and see what happens. While it seems like we have all the time in the world for Kane and Toews, Hossa/Keith/Sharp/Seabs aren't going to be here forever.

Ask Bowman, that is all he's done from day one.

There is a window, but when a GM trades away one of your better players specifically because of cap purposes down the road, the expectation has to be that he's sacrificing the now for the later.

Just about every trade for players that would seem to have any real impact at all, the team getting the players overpaid. Nobody that Bowman could have realistically gotten were worth Saad, McNeil and Olsen which seems to be what everyone wanted.

I'm not really familiar with Oduya but he could have a much bigger impact than people think. He's been described as a minutes eater. If Oduya can play 20 minutes a game, that should translate to about 3-4 less minutes per game for Keith and Seabrook. Q is working those guys to death out of either desperation or stubbornness depending on who you ask. Both those guys will be better with less work. same is true for Leddy and Hammer if/ when he returns.

The real concern is goaltending. The Hawks will live and die with how well Crawford plays down the stretch.

As a Wings fan I was not happy that the Wings did not add a forward, but after seeing what it cost for 4th line centers I am glad we passed. I would say that the Wings current window is going to be closed before the Hawks. I also think teams like Nashville, Vancouver and San Jose have various issues that make them more desperate than teams like the Hawks. I know right now it doesn't look good, but I still think the Hawks can be a Cup contender this year and are still much stronger going into the future than most of the other Western Conference powers.

Okay, maybe I'm being a little knee jerk here. It's only been 17 minutes. But Oduya is ass. On ice for all three goals. Slow. Not physical.

first goal wasn't his fault...maybe second one he could've made a better play at, but it was a world class play by two forward who are as comfortable with each other as anyone this side of the sedins. i didn't see the 3rd goal.

then again, not sure why i'm defending oduya. never liked him very much at all. he played in a great system in NJ and never really stood out and has been pretty bad for his tenure in WPG/ATL.

soooo yeah. he probably sucks, but that first period wasn't really why. then again, i'm a jack johnson fan; i've been excusing - plays for years.
