Well, it would be nice if our Bears came out, defended home turf, answered some questions, and won this damn game.

But right now I'm skeptical. I think the Pack take this one and we spend another week questioning ourselves.

*Sigh*, don't like this. It's really mostly because of this patchwork OLine. The one thing that we can't rely on, is a really big thing.

At any rate, this is no doubt one of the most interesting matchups of the weekend. The GB/CHI rivalry lives on, and remains must-watch NFL football. We all win, in that respect.

I want to pick the Bears. It feels like the Bears "contain" Rodgers better than just about every team out there (an by contain I mean 275 yards and 2 TDs). Maybe I'm basing too much off of last week, but you know Capers is going to throw different variations of what the Saints did last weekend, which means heavy blitzing. Until the line, without Carimi and probably Louis, proves that they can protect Jay in that type of situation, I have a hard time picking the Bears to beat a quality team like GB. The one thing I worry about is Jay getting hit early and thinking "here we go again" an go into his shell like he did last week. Granted the line wasn't giving him anytime to do anything but by the end of the game it seemed like he was just resigned to having a guy in his face witting 3 seconds every down. He didn't look like the same decision maker out there.

Anyways, I'll go Packers 24-16. I hate myself

I'm feeling better than I probably should about this game, after feeling worse that I thought I should have vs. NO, and very confident vs. Atlanta. It's going to be tough, but I feel the outcome of this game will be largely based on who is on the field. Missing Bennett will suck, but if Roy Williams and Chris Harris can go, and Tramon Williams cannot....I like the Bears chances to pull one out.

I think the key is to come out with a gameplan like the Dallas game. Don't think we are going to be able to run successfully, but getting the ball out quickly will be key. 3-step drop and throw should be the gameplan. It will slow down the pass rush. And if the Bears have success with it, the Packers will get the sense of "here we go again" with the pass D (I hope) and possibly lay off some of the pressure. Gotta pick some spots to go deep too. Whether it's 3-step drop and throw down the field or if Cutler gets a non-blitz read at the line of scrimmage and takes an occassional 7-step drop. Watch out for Merriweather to really make his prescence known this weekend for the first time as a Bear.

In my opinion there are 3 majors factors the Bears cannot rely on; the offensive line, the receivers, and the secondary.

All three of them are anywhere from subpar to horrible. It has gotten to the point where the WR coach is acting like a high school coach telling fans to love them or leave them. Those receivers are really bad. They provide no safety valve for Cutler, and of course with this offensive line you need that safety valve. The game will have to be won by Cutler, Forte, the dline and linebackers. But they might need another special teams break to make it happen.

I just have the feeling we're going to get destroyed. GB is going to take advantage of the o-line. I am also an extreme pessimist, and hope that I'm way wrong.

I think the Packers are still vulnerable to a KR/PR TD. That might be the only way, or multiple turnovers. Big ones.

The Packers need to blitz the crap out of Cutler until the Bears prove they can stop it.

They can probably just nail Cutler without blitzing all that much, as has been said.

Last week I wasn't too upset about Roy Williams being out, but now I'm really hoping he's back this week. Even if he drops the ball far too often, he's the biggest target the Bears have, and the defense has got to cover him. Maybe(?) this will let some other WR's get open, or keep them from being able to bring safeties on the blitz as often. Could be wishful thinking.

they won't be able to. this line gets confused blocking a 4-man front.

Why are some fans so obsessed with the blitz? I would actually welcome some over aggressive blitzing this week. Cutler can exploit that on occassion. The Bears lack the line to block straight up and look deep.

Agreed, I don't believe Cutler has thrown a deep ball yet this year, which is sad considering the speed of our WRs.

It drove me nuts that we didn't do more dump off passes to Forte or Davis on the blitzes that the Saints were doing late. It seems like it should've been so easy to have some short routes rather than trying to max protect all the time.

The Packers' Leroy Butler talking about Matt Forte:

“They don’t pay anybody unless you are on defense or you are a quarterback,” Butler said Friday morning on “The Mully & Hanley Show” on WSCR-670 AM. “They gotta pay this man, you gotta get this man a little bit less than Chris Johnson and lock him up for seven or eight years. He is the best running back in the league if you put in rushing and catching. How can you wear a guy out and not pay him? I just do not understand the logic behind it. He is the best player on that team. Take him away, just take him away and tell me what that offense is all about. Now you’ll be puking up your coffee.”

it's easy to blitz our offense because there are no audibles and the center is in charge of recognizing the defense and calling out blocking schemes.

A) They've spent a lot of money on washed up offensive linemen.

B) They spent 1st round draft pick money on a few RBs and brought in veteran free agents.

C) Muhsin Muhammed

D) It's not like they haven't tried to pay him more. Forte asked for more than they offered. Whatever they end up giving him, he will be a salary cap hit in a couple years.

While I agree that he needs to be paid, one thing you don't do is sign a RB to a 7-8 year contract. I don't care who he is.

Huh? This isn't baseball. You sign him for as longterm as you can, to spread out the cap hit. It's not the length that is all that scary, it's the guarantee.

Did you forget that 29-30 (sometimes earlier) is pretty much washed up for a RB? Let alone 32-33 (7-8 years from now). Chris Johnson got a 4-year extension, which is what Forte needs as well. Sure the contracts aren't as extreme as they are in MLB, but why pay him any money at all when the chances are some stud out of college will out-produce him by the time he reaches his 30s (See: Tomlinson).
