I'm discussing a [expletive] football game in a football game thread. You brought up the point that locker room fodder means something I said it doesn't. What do you think a message board is for? Throwing out comments in hopes that no one notices and doesn't contend your point?

There is a difference between debating a significant argument and nitpicking small nonchalant comments. Truth is I can't say one [expletive] word around here without someone putting their two cents in.

C'mon man, I made a comment about Urlacher last week that you and other people gave me [expletive] for because of the obviousness of the comment and I didn't come back and whine about it. If you are really that concerned about people saying something about a comment you made then don't say it, not too mention you (or at least other Bears fans) have contended more than once that the Bears use bulletin board material to their advantage in the past so it's not like it's some throw away comment, it's a belief and argument you have laid out before but if it's that big of a deal I'll just let it go.

Um, weren't you the one tossing out outrageous hypothetical questions to me a few pages back, trying to draw me into a fight? Seems like you've gotten your two cents worth in on several occasions as well.

It was an honest question.

I guess the answer depends on if all the players are 8 feet tall and if the game is played on Mars as long as we're factoring in never-gonna-happen scenarios.

Is mini-Lovie coaching the Bears, or is he 8 feet tall too?

Let me just point out that it's no coincidence that so far those arguing against it being locker room fodder are Packers fans.

So whenever a media member picks against the Bears, that should be considered "locker room fodder?" I don't think the Bears are that mentally soft.

I just think that it's dumb to think a player plays harder (or at least in an impactful way) because some guy who works for a newspaper says their team will lose. But I guess since I cheer for the Packers that's a dumb point.

I liked your original idea of letting it go.

Because it's just some silly fan thing that most of us Bear fans say, simply because it seems like there's some weird correlation. I can't imagine any of us really believe players are sitting around waiting for news headlines to become motivated.

Fair enough, and I get that not all Bears fans believe this and this isn't really some thing against Bears fans (I don't hate Bears fans at all, not fond of the team but I don't hate the fans, because they share my favorite team in most other sports). It's more against the notion of Bulletin Board material period when there are plenty of other things to motivate an athlete, especially in a game like football where not trying can get you seriously injured. Mostly a pet peeve of mine got triggered and I felt the urge to post about it. Combine that with booze because of college football and I get pissy.

Packers fans are going to have their own thread, right?

If the Packers lose, I hope not.

I would assume so, seeing as if someone posts anything more than "The Green Bay Packers are a professional football team" on this board everyone gets all butthurt and it starts a flamewar.

That was only for the NFC Championship game. This is only week 3. No need for it right now.

Yep. So long as everybody behaves like grown ups, we should be fine.

Barber and Carimi out today (shocker). Per LaCanfora, the team believes that both guys should be available to play next week.

Roy Williams will start.

wisconsin has got to be the most provincial, jingoistic sports state in the north. if you live in wisconsin, nay, if you are simply passing through wisconsin, and you aren't strictly a badger/packer/brewer/buck fan, you get looks like you're from the moon. no one in the state can believe that anyone could have a sports interest outside of those 4 teams.

"you're a bears fan?"

"yep"

"but you're in wis-can-sin!"

"you don't say? and actually, it's pronounced wes-consin"

I can't disagree with you there. I get looks like that all the time because of my Cubs fandom. Of course, then the assumption is that I'm a Bears fan, too.

And anyone who says "Wes-consin" needs a kick in the crotch.
