Isn't it 5 PM EST when teams have to have their bids in by? Dierkes does think we'll find out today, for what it's worth.

Yeah, the deadline is 7 AM in Japan, so I figure that news would come out by the end of their work day/our night.

Dave Schoenfield has already made the bold assumption that Texas will win, and makes no mention of the Cubs...

They aren't even listed in the espn poll.

All that really means is that they don't expect the Cubs to be players because they havn't heard of any interest, but as we know, The tends to keep his biness on the down low.

Darvish is a free agent after next season, right? Completely free?

I can see this getting ugly with whatever team wins.

My guess is his free agent contract would be somewhat suppressed by people not knowing exactly how he'd pitch in MLB. He's not going to get Halladay money. If he does go through posting process, he could insist on a 3-year contract with guarantees of no arbitration offer so he will be a free agent at age 28 having 3 seasons in MLB to prove his stature. But even with that theory, it would still make sense for him to wait a year and get $100m all to himself.

Didn't rumor have it that Seibu was threatening to send Matsuzaka back down to the minors if he didn't sign? Apparently they can keep guys down there pretty much indefinitely without them reaching FA status.

Of course, Boras would file infinity bajillion lawsuits... but Darvish would still end up getting hurt in the long run most likely.

I'm guessing Ricketts will draw on his Theo Compensation experience and just stare down Darvish's agent until he comes here for pennies.

are there any links that say the cubs have any interest at all?

Locally it had been being reported for a long time.

Maybe one or two. It's hard to say because with the posting system, any leaks at all about interest in Darvish have to come from the teams themselves. There's no agent for the player on the other end to feed news to, true or not. And considering the front office's track record thus far of keeping secrets, it would be no surprise for nothing to come out about their interest in Darvish and still win or put in a significant bid.

Red Sox did not submit a bid, according to Cafardo.

Similarly, the Twins did not(according to a MN beat guy), because they expected the price to be "sky high".

Apparently the Yankees only submitted a token offer to make sure he didn't go too cheaply.
