I'd be ok with that only if Pujols is involved.

I just cannot see myself enjoying LaRussa's dirty style of baseball. Oh and can't wait for his first public spat with a Cubs player.

The Cubs don't need those two to get Pujols. Getting those two doesn't guarantee getting Pujols. It's a falty premise.

I'm not disappointed in myself at all," he said. "We didn't pitch as well as I'd hoped. I think our offense ends up being about what we thought. As I said numerous times, the game boils down to pitching, and when we struggle with starters, it's tough to overcome."

The only aspect of the team's performance he wasn't happy with was the poor defensive play.

"One disappointment, if I had one, that would be it," Quade said. "It wasn't for lack of work on it or concentration or emphasis, from the beginning of Spring Training."

Nice of Quade to use injuries as an excuse for the pitching and essentially blame Hendry for the offense sucking.

I'm not saying he's necessarily wrong, but it would be nice if for once we had a manager with a ballsac

So wait when will they substantively get underway on this search? As soon as the regular season ends?

The search should be over by now. The decision making will take place as soon as teams start finishing their seasons.

They probably already have, but we won't know anything unless the people with whom they are talking leak it.

It will be interesting to see what sort of compensation the Cubs will have to pay if they get Beane or Epstein. Friedman does not have a contract. I still think it will be a lieutenant who gets the job. I'm hoping for Cherington if the above three decline.

So what time frame does that leave? Could this be over in early October?

If they're interested at all in Epstein or Freidman, it won't end until they're eliminated.

Then let's go Halos!

If the WS wanted Morrison from the Marlins for Guillen, I would imagine Epstein would cost us Castro.

even if we offer him a promotion and make him team president?

Got in the car this morning and Mike and Mike (I know) were talking about how Olney told them an hour before that "people close to Epstein are making a lot of noise about how Theo Epstein is going to wind up the next GM of the Cubs."

Let's root for the Rays and see how it turns out I guess.

I've given up on Friedman based on what I've read about how difficult it's gonna be to tear him away from his relationships with ownership and everyone else there. If we can lure him away with money, great.

How great is it that we're saying oh well, Friedman will probably be tough to pry away, let's just settle for Epstein?

And if Epstein gets swayed to stay in Boston, I guess I'd be ok with Cashman.

***Of course if we wind up with Dan Evans when all is said and done, there will be much heroin injection for all***

It's amazing how ridiculously different my reactions would be between the guys I want and the guys I don't want hired for this. And then there's Rick Hahn right in the middle.

According to Jon Heyman of SI.com, the Cubs reached out to Rays executive vice president Andrew Friedman "at some point."

Cubs chairman Tom Ricketts is aiming high in his search for the team's next general manager, with prominent names like Friedman, Brian Cashman, Theo Epstein and Billy Beane reportedly at the top of his A-list. It's not clear when the Cubs put out feelers to Friedman, but it probably won't matter, as Heyman hears most believe he'll stay with the Rays.
