I don't really want anything to do with LaRussa as Cub's manager at all. He might be my least favorite person in sports.

Yep, can't keep my emotions back on this one. Jocketty would be a relative disappointment for me, and I hate TLR so much that I don't care if it bring Pujols. [expletive] that.

now you guys know how i felt about Edmonds.

If LaRussa came on board and the Cubs won 100 games, would you then like him? Or would you be appreciative of the 'help' he gave us but still dislike him?

Assuming they went on to win the World Series, I'd like him very much.

I would be discerning and realize that if we did win the World Series, he probably had very little to do with it because a) he's only a manager and b) he's bad at his job. Edmonds is not a good comp.

That's how I feel about it, then add the fact that he's an [expletive], has been a Cardinal for so long and he has stupid hair, I have no desire to see him manage the Cubs.

My personal feelings toward any athlete in particular have never been strong enough to determine whether or not I'd want them on my team.

I wouldn't want LaRussa because I think he's old school and he's kind of a lunatic...not because of some weird hatred I've built up from afar for a guy I've never met.

Granted, if it were the difference between having Albert Pujols and not having him, I'd take him all day.

I feel like Wittenmeyer just gets bored once a week and makes up some crazy rumor just to get a story. Seems like he is always throwing out ideas none of the other beat writers have heard mentioned at all.

Thats exactly why I hated Edmonds so much. I hated everything about him, well beyond just baseball, much like LaRussa. But I'm not saying I wouldnt want him on the team, I'd just not like him. LaRussa is a little different because managers don't have nearly the impact that players do (obviously). That said, if I could be promised a WS title if he was our manager, I'd welcome him with open arms....but still dislike him.

Yep, I'd take the World Series no doubt but I really don't want to listen to him complain all the freaking time.

There's just a wee bit of cause and effect there.

depends on how many people he kills that year drunk driving on the way home from wrigley.

Except for that time, you know, when he wrote that the Cubs were closing in on trading for Matt Garza and everyone else seemed to make fun of him for it.

I don't have to have some weird personal feelings for a guy I've never met based on the fact that I think he's a crappy manager.

People who do that are weird.

That was only ever OK with John Starks, and that's because I was 9 years old.

People here dislike LaRussa because he's a drunk maniac and a raging [expletive].... not because of his managing skills.

I think that used to be the case, but with his continuing insanity with goofy lineups and insisting on having guys like Theriot and Schumaker around when they're terrible defensively and you have a high GB rate pitching staff, it's more a case of not liking his managing. That doesn't change anything in terms of how much of a drunk maniac and raging prick he is though.

Which is why I disagreed with the cause and effect comment.

The Cardinals fans here seem to hate him.

Walt Jocketty & TLR?

http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/id/16252/cubs-future-could-be-the-cardinals-past

Over the next few months, the Cubs will have a golden opportunity to reverse the club's recent misfortune. (And by "recent," of course, I'm talking about the last 100 years or so.) Right now, they’re searching for a new general manager to replace Jim Hendry, who was fired in July after nine seasons. Of the possibilities being debated internally, by far the most intriguing scenario involves hiring Walt Jocketty away from the Cincinnati Reds.

I know this might be painful, but imagine for a moment that you are a Cubs fan. Now picture this: With one hiring, the Cubs could weaken not one, but two National League Central division opponents, increase their chances of luring an all-time great hitter to Wrigley, and stick a thumb in the eye of former manager Dusty Baker. Delicious, no?

So, yes, Walt Jocketty has the sparkling résumé, but internal discussions within the Chicago front office present an ideal sequence of events that make his hiring even more attractive. Cardinals manager Tony La Russa, like Jocketty, is in the final year of his contract and appears to be ready to leave St. Louis if the right opportunity were to arise. Reuniting with his former GM from the St. Louis glory days of the early to mid 2000s seems like a natural fit. That's especially true if the duo can convince a certain free agent-to-be to join them on the north side of Chicago.

Cardinals superstar Albert Pujols, obviously, is the key. The Cubs are expected to make a serious run at Pujols after this season, when the slugger hits the free-agent market. He would certainly fit nicely at first base and in the middle of a Cubs lineup that is in desperate need of some pop. It's not unreasonable for the Cubs’ brass to believe that Chicago's chances of luring Pujols are enhanced by bringing Jocketty and La Russa on board, and Jocketty's hiring is the linchpin to this dream scenario.

Puke. That's not a dream, it's a [expletive] nightmare.

I think the Ricketts are smarter than that anyway.

My bet is Creighten. I think they'll go hard after Epstein and he'll recommend his right hand man.
