I'm not sure I'm ok with paying Epstein 145M to come here.

Lets do what the White Sox did and trade for him, and give the Sox Soriano straight up.

The question is, when trading for a GM, who are you striking the deal with? Maybe he'll trade himself to the Cubs for Soriano, Zambrano and their full contracts and send A Gon and Lester with him.

I'm not sure Boston's ownership would sign off on that.

Fine, we'll send em Colvin too.

Well we should definitely base the hiring of a new GM on what the best storyline would be.

Why shouldnt it play a factor? Its not as if Epstein is more qualified than Beane, and he's way less realistic in the first place.

Because nobody gives a [expletive] about a story line, they want a [expletive] world series you dolt.

So Epstein is more likely to deliver one because....???

Let me give the magic guess...because he's already done it and uh..."knows how to win" or something in the vicinity.

FYI: Story is the only reason Epstein would take the job....broke the biggest curses in the sport is something of a story, even if I think it sucks. What other incentive does he have?

Totally off topic at this point, but just had a chance to get back to it.

I'm pretty sure I didn't say I wanted one guy over another. My only point is that the fans of this team shouldn't give a damn about a story line in any way, shape or form. I want the guy who will make the Cubs a perennial contender and give them a regular chance at winning a World Series. I don't know who that guy is, but if they can get Epstein or Beane (or one of a few others mentioned ad nauseum), I think that's a step in the right direction.

How awesome would it be if we hired Reagins?

And by awesome, I mean suicide inducing.

Listening to WEEI yeterday, a lot of the Red Sox fans were suggesting that the Red Sox trade Theo to the Cubs in a package deal along with Lackey and Crawford, so Theo has to take his garbage contracts with him.

Some package deal involving those names, and possibly Zambrano and/or Soriano (to offset some of the $$$ impact on the Cubs) isn't difficult at all to imagine.

Who negotiates that deal?

OK, Theo, Lackey and Crawford for Soriano, Zambrano, and Randy Bush.

I vote for Epstein/Martinez

Raffy for 1B coach.

Let's alienate the hell out of Ryno.

This did not go unnoticed. Awesome.

Seriously, he would never come back.

I want this so damn bad.

Isn't also rumored that Maddux and Cindy were bumping uglies? Make him the pitching coach.

Should I root for a Francona/Epstein package? I really dont want to even get my hopes up

There have to be some legitimate concerns with Epstein. Nothing too serious, but he's had a rough couple of years and has saddled them with bad contracts and a bad system. Part of that is definitely attrition, as they were well stocked a couple years back and made some moves/had graduations.

Don't get me wrong, overall, I'd be pleased with a Francona/Epstein package. Just not sure I'm definitively rooting for anything right now, outside of perhaps Friedman, and I doubt he comes here. Sounds like Ricketts is doing a thorough job, though, so I think I should be pleased enough with the end result.

Who has a dump truck we can use?

Dump truck, hell, I've got three M88A2s. Those could tow Ft. Knox to where ever his house is.

You've got three M88A2's hanging around the house? geesh ... but man, my buddy told me those things can tow a ton. I could probably google up the specs for what it can handle, but I figured I'd ask anyways out of curiosity.

Is Reaggins an option? He's resigned from the Angels job, but will reportedly remain on as a special assistant. The Vernon Wells trade will always be a blemish on his record, and the Tori Hunter contract won't help his legacy either, but one the plus side, he was wise enough to let John Lacky and Chone Figgins go without much of a fight. He's had a pretty successful run overall.

The recovery section in my unit has three of them, I don't think Uncle Sam would like me having them at my house.

With the winch set up for a 3:1 pull, it can handle around 200-210 tons fairly easily. That's around 400,000 lbs. That enough money for Theo? Even in $1 bills?

Hope this is a much more subtle version of my joke post.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that "every executive I've talked to in the last 36 hours" thinks Theo Epstein will be hired as the Cubs' new general manager.

Since the Red Sox have a contract option on Epstein for next year, the Red Sox would first need to grant him permission just to interview with the Cubs, which Sherman says they'll do. It appears that Epstein and Rays GM Andrew Friedman are the Cubs' top two targets, and either would have to be considered a home run hire for a franchise starved for winning.

Interesting.....

I wonder how many executives he's talked to in the last 36 hours. I also dont see anything about this on the post website, and you would think if he had that kind of scoop he'd have put it there.
