A 21 year old playing for a team that is playing out the stream during the dog days of the season. Does anybody think that his lack of focus last night is connected to the fact that Starlin has played in 40 straight games?

That's a great point that will never be mentioned.

The seeds are a moot point, but Valentine has it spot on. Castro looked disinterested and had his glove off half the time until just before the pitch. He wasn't set and sometimes wasn't even looking at the batter. He has a lot to learn at 21, and Quade should be giving him an ear full, all-star or not!

There was a moment when he was looking up at the sky with mouth agape for a few moments that was totally like some of the little leaguers I coach. It was glorious.

"it is just 100 percent inexcusable for castro to carry himself like this!"

Like the response

Castro feels terrible, knows that can't happen in a game and won't again. Soriano apparently said something to him about it after the game.

The Tribune comment section is the gutter of Cub fandom.

quills is exactly right, like it or not.

Latin ballplayers, while talented and generally very athletic are notoriously impatient at the plate, swinging at everything. They're also lousy fundamentally, and explosively tempermental. They go to sleep in the field, throw to the wrong base and can't get a bunt down to save their lives. And about a dozen other annoying things. If I had to guess why, it's that most don't go through college baseball in this country, which is a great 4 year learning ground for many MLBers.

There. I said it. OK, now go ahead and unload on me. Call me a racist. Obviously I'm not talking about EVERY Latin ballplayer, so don't say "what about Pujols?" (although he's a juicer, and about 42 years old). I'm tired of idiots like Zambrano flaming out on the team every 2 months; Soriano swinging at pitches in the dirt; Soto showing up every Spring overweight; Marmol unable to throw a strike, etc etc.

I'll take an African American or white guy any day than a teamful of Latinos. Just being honest.

I love how Soriano is now the wise old sage who is getting on guys when they do stupid stuff.

That's about all he's good for.

A coach on a Little League team that we competed against this season had all of his players say "hey batter batter swing" before every pitch. I told him after the game that was kind of bush league for 11 and 12 yr olds. He replied that he agreed, but he was having issues with players paying attention so he had them go back to the Hey Batter Batter Swing thing to help them pay attention better. Maybe Quade should consider this.

Hollandsworth is probably jacking off while formulating his "Castro never misses that play if Ramirez had gone to the All-Star game" argument.

Kaplan's lending a hand, probably.

At one point, Quade was asked if Castro was going to be tested for Attention Deficit Disorder.

really?

Not that he would be able to take anything for it anyways. I'm pretty sure adderall and ritalin are banned aren't they? Wasn't it Scott Eyre that got busted for Ritalin?

You can get a waiver.

I think Castro needs to be tested for please let this [expletive] season end so our new GM can build a respectable baseball team disorder.

That's not a real thing...is it?

I'm on Strattera for ADD and I don't know if that's on the banned list. It helps keep me focused and HEY A DOG!!!! (runs off)

In college, our 2B (a bit of a space case) turned around to give the number of outs to the outfielders. He kicked at some dirt like Castro and didn't get turned back around in time. The player fouled it off, but the coaches saw what had happened. Coach sent out a replacement before another pitch was thrown.

$50 says he literally meant they fall asleep on the field.

Cubs can't win because day baseball interferes with their daily siesta
