If only they'd kept up this August pace all year, they'd have already clinched the division. Marmol would be dead, but hey, playoffs!

Wow, a win after some blown offensive chances & a HBP for the Reds' lead-off hitter. Things going the Cubs way. Hopefully this doesn't turn into something that saves people's jobs

way to play just well enough to give hendry and quade another year, cubs

Way to act like you're in a game thread, Rocket.

ONLY THE CUBS    :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :bye:

Castro with 19 3-hit games. The record is 24.

Team record for a season, I assume?

yeah i would like to know this as well.

either way, gives me something to care about the rest of the way.

edit - has to be team record, because ichiro had 34 3-hit games in the seaon he broke the single-season hits record.

For those not watching, Campana just hit a 2-run inside the park HR.

And now Aramis doubles. No outs.

LOL when I saw that Campana hit a home run, my first thought was "wow he hit an inside the parker at Wrigley?"

First professional (minors or majors) HR for Campana. I would have put money on it being an inside the parker.

My thought as well. Moreland acted surprised that his first homer would be inside the park.

yeah campana MAYBE could hit a home run at rock & jock softball games where they set up that temporary fencing like 200 feet from home plate.

I remember those well. They seemed to have the same celebs every year. Then they came out with the rock & jock basketball with the 8 point line and what not.

So Pena's hit 2 near grand slams this season at Wrigley... he's probably gonna hit one onto Sheffield sooner or later.

Great to see the team doing well, even if it hurts the chances of Quade or Hendry getting canned.

Home Run of the Day: Tony Campana, Chicago Cubs - 14.21 seconds

You always remember your first home run. I imagine that's doubly so when your first home run is of the inside-the-park variety. Granted, this was an inside-the-park home run of the "botched play" variety (courtesy of a very out of position Yonder Alonso), but I don't think Campana or anyone on the Cubs is going to mind that. Campana's trot isn't quite as quick as Peter Bourjos' four-base single, but (unless I'm forgetting one) it is now the second-quickest trot I've recorded, nudging out Shane Victorino's 14.33 second trot. Nice running, Tony.

Are there inside-the-park home runs that don't somehow involve a play being botched? Isn't it typically an OF diving for a ball and missing it, so it gets behind him, and then the other OF is slow to back him up?

Sometimes it's just confusion about your own home parks ground rules if you remember Geo chugging around the bases in Houston.
