Have the teams been announced yet?

 

Mark Reynolds should go for the AL. I knew he was off to a very poor start and got benched, but I just looked up his numbers and was shocked. Since June 1 he's clubbed 13 homers and raised his OPS from .672 to .871.

 

And Willy Mo Pena would undoubtedly put on a show but there's no way a part-time player gets picked.

This. After watching him hit that ball down the line a week or two ago, I need to see him in the home run contest. It might have been foul, but that ball was just absolutely mashed. The guy is capable of putting up multiple 500+ ft bombs.

I don't think they're finalized yet. I've seen articles the last couple days about players saying they'd be willing to participate if asked (current Cub Carlos Pena and former Cub Josh Hamilton were mentioned specifically).

He's been awful this year, but has Adam Dunn ever participated? When I think of raw power, he always comes to mind but I can't remember seeing him in a derby.

Nope. He's only been on one All-Star team almost 10 years ago and he wasn't invited to be in the Derby that year (Bonds, Sosa, Berkman, and Sexson participated for the NL that year). With the new Home Run Derby format, this was the first year he would have been eligible to be selected.

 

I've seen some invitations issued by Fielder and Ortiz and I've even seen the rumored American league lineup, but I haven't seen any confirmation on who has accepted those invitations.

ortiz is to the homerun derby what dominique wilkins or spud webb or some other loveable gimmick was to the slam dunk comp. it's tough not to smile watching him swing.
