The Realtime results on Google are funny to watch for news like this. You see Ken Rosenthal mention it, then Rotoworld, then Lavar Arrington?

Shawn Yancy uses Riggleman's bad news to shill her DC News show while openly admitting to be a Duke football fan. For shame.

Apparently he told Rizzo if his option wasn't picked up, he wasn't getting on the bus. Edited by Rob

I will always remain amazed that he somehow got that 1998 team into the playoffs. That team had Sosa, Wood and nobody else.

What the Nationals are doing lately is pretty impressive, too.

Mark Clark just punched a hobo and doesn't know why.

Seems an odd ultimatum for Riggleman to issue. Rizzo wouldn't have unilateral authority to say "OK Jim, we'll pick up your option" would he?

I can't imagine a manager quitting on his team in midseason because he's unhappy with his contract will sit well in front office circles. Not a great message for the manager to send to the players, considering at any time at least half the lockerroom is disgruntled about their contract. I don't think he'll ever get another manager job again after this stunt.

Grace was no slouch.

If Riggleman is to believed, it wasn't necessarily an ultimatum to extend his contract; he's saying it was an ultimatum to at least discuss picking up his contract after this season, and the FO refused to even do that.

part of me thinks he was stupid for even asking. the other half thinks that he saw the writing on the wall. The farm is loaded for bear and once all these prospects start coming of age they probably would have let him walk and hired a more high profile guy. That is probably why they hired Davy Johnson for the rest of this year and next. But not as an interim guy nor as a 3-4 year guy. Judging by that picture above rigs is doing pretty good for himself. Heck if quade is fired next year or let go, I would be all for rigs making a comeback to cubs.

Jim Riggleman is looking for work after his abrupt resignation last week as Washington Nationals manager, and the former Chicago Cubs field boss didn't need long to land a temporary gig: analyst for the Cubs-Sox series this weekend on Comcast SportsNet.

I wouldn't want to hire a manager that quits on his team because he doesn't think he will be re-signed.

Seriously. I don't get what Riggleman thought his endgame was here. He gave up his current manager's gig, and virtually ensured he won't be getting another.
