again, nobody is hitting other top hitting prospects who come up. this isn't some dumb-ass rite of passage. the reason harper got hit was because he doesn't "play the game the right way," which is silly, but at the same time harper has to know that acting like an asshat is going to draw the ire of some opponents.

Ryan Braun hasn't learned yet and it's been almost 5 years.

There's a difference between acting like an asshat and acting like a douchebag. Braun is a douchebag, but a lot of ballplayers are douchebags. That's what happens when you get 6 figure deals as an 18 year old and then essentially no longer have to continue growing up. Asshats are a specific breed of douchebag, like AJ and others.

Bryce Harper is a 19 year old Ballplayer for Washington with a 14 page thread on a Chicago Cubs message board extolling his general douchebagedness. This is an extraordinary person. People know who he is. Some athletes read and read about their sport, despite all that meat in their head. I'm sure many veterans have heard of his bs antics in the minors, and oh yes there are/were antics. I'm sure that left them none to pleased.

Also like that simply stating that ARod, Griffey, and Braun never saw chin music of any kind makes it a 100% factual statement. As if it's actually improbable that that wouldn't capture the headlines the next day (with the pitcher admitting it)...Big story big story...Douchebag ballplayer gets hit by ball....read all about it...that would get everyone all in a tizz during the 80's and 90's.

Again I ask, where was A-Rod's "welcome to the big leagues, hot shot" beanball? Ryan Braun's? Junior's?

We're not talking about chin music here.

Yeah... Bob Gibson and the old school guys threw a lot of chin music. Most of the time it's because the batter was crowding the plate and intimidation factor. They weren't about, "oh look at this 19 yr kid who's all bada$$ so I'm gonna hit him right in the back/leg/wherever because he deserve it and that's what old school pitchers do." That's what Hamels did. I'm glad it bit him in the A$$ because not only Harper ended up scoring, he stole home. Also... I know people say Harper's an asshat and he was sometime in the minors, but I haven't seen anything since he has been called up. Everything I've read/seen/heard that he's a good kid and listen and does what he supposed to. Plus he runs like Pete Rose when he's going for a double.

Yeah we're talking about hitting a guy in a very specific part of the body picked because serious injury is much less likely to occur.

Should he have thrown at his head instead? Would that make it nicer and more family friendly for the easily offended?

I say they make him apologize to the public for his egregious actions.

Since few will actually read this but run with your comment..Leyland is more pissed that he bragged about it after the game to the public. THAT I can and have agreed with.

"I don't know the man," Leyland said of the Phillies pitcher. "I know he's a very good pitcher, a very talented guy, but when you come out and admit [hitting Harper on purpose] like that - that ball could have missed, hit him in the head or something else like that - and you come out and admit that, I think five games is way too light, in my personal opinion. And I would expect that if that was my pitcher, if my pitcher went out and, almost in a braggadocious way, talked about hitting a guy and that, 'I did it on purpose.'

"I felt the way I read it, and I don't know if the kid meant it this way, but it was almost like a braggadocious thing. That's not enough. There's no way."

Also, more coulda/woulda/shoulda nonsense.

Honestly, what are you talking about at this point?

Oh and you haven't seen Harper do anything like he did in the minors since he got called up less than ten days ago? What a saint on earth he must be then...Hasn't disrespected any veteran fellow players in ten days...Damn, Hamels really is a moron. Laid waste (out of jealousy no doubt!) to a beautiful, innocent boy who hasn't done blown a kiss to a pitcher/catcher or talked [expletive] to an opponent in 10 days? How gracious of him!

Iunno that's another excellent point...between this, Torress accidentally hurting someone ten years ago, pretending to remember that no one threw at ARod/Griffey twenty years ago, and throwing rocks at strangers I'm starting to see. PLUS Mitch Williams got mad.

So you are saying Harper may have had the audacity to [expletive] on Hamels door mat? There is more to this story than meets the eye? Bryce stole a wave from Hamels over the off season in Maui?

I'm saying ALL of Bryce Harper's reputation precedes him. Players know who he is. Before Hamels actually did there was already Latos talking about doing it. These guys know who each other are, especially someone like Harper. Guess what? It's not all sunshine and lollipops with sprinkles, hugs, and friendship all around.

Also saying that he's made a habit of [expletive] on many opponents' door mats. It can't and won't sit well with pretty much any clubhouse in the league, particularly pitchers and catchers. Sory if that's meatheaded, offensive, meany poo thinking but not everyone is blessed with perfect moral. Maybe if they can just change him through love?!

Does anyone know if Harper is doing alright? Will he play again?

Posted
Again, what did he do to Hamels and/or the Phillies to make it justifiable? When did he put on a demonstration of douche factor since his call up? It was stupid, and didn't make any sense. Hamels is a ninny.

For the love of the planet earth take that kind of boring nonsense outrage over nothing and use it on one of the many genocides going on right now

I was wondering wtf I'm still doing talking about this....Yuch. I've given this so much unnecessary attention, haven't I?

Seriously... What else has Harper done beside that blowing that kiss to a pitcher in the minors? Talking crap to an opponent???? REALLY??? Everyone does that. It's not like Harper was a problem child/troublemaker/immature/etc.. in the minors like Delmon Young or Elijah Dukes for example. Pretty sure these guys didn't get beaned in the back soon after they got called up.
