Oh and you haven't seen Harper do anything like he did in the minors since he got called up less than ten days ago? What a saint on earth he must be then...Hasn't disrespected any veteran fellow players in ten days...Damn, Hamels really is a moron. Laid waste (out of jealousy no doubt!) to a beautiful, innocent boy who hasn't done blown a kiss to a pitcher/catcher or talked [expletive] to an opponent in 10 days? How gracious of him!

Seriously... What else has Harper done beside that blowing that kiss to a pitcher in the minors? Talking crap to an opponent???? REALLY??? Everyone does that. It's not like Harper was a problem child/troublemaker/immature/etc.. in the minors like Delmon Young or Elijah Dukes for example. Pretty sure these guys didn't get beaned in the back soon after they got called up.

I absolutely love that you can say that in the 14 page Bryce Harper is a Douche thread on a Cubs forum and there are people who will be like "yah totally!" Acknowledge it when it fits, right? Or maybe its just a joke based on...something! Who knows?!

His attitude is infamously Bonds-level arrogant. Who DOESN'T know this or are we just playing obtuse to prolong this conversation? This is like the second thing you learn about Bryce Harper with the first being that he's REALLY good at baseball. He's going to catch some kind of crap all year...it'll just have to be more subtle now is all. Some people just rub their peers in the wrong way and Harper is that guy...possibly due to him being that talented and that arrogant all at the same time (see, Hamels was just jealous!).

Btw if someone tried to throw at Delmon Young he'd probably have a swing at it. Elijah Dukes the sociopath? What does he even...I really think the whole dynamic is just lost on fans, and not so deep down I think that kind of disappoints the [expletive] out of me (hence not shutting up about it). It's not even like society is more mature so that's not it...

Well you can jump off a bridge anchored by a 500 pound stone, but most anyone else can say that it's OK to peg Bryce Harper. Otherwise this thread gets to page 20 with me still raving.

Or just retitle the thread "Bryce Harper: Innocent, Healthy Egoed Victim of a Violent Crime."

Jesus this turned into a dumb thread.

Look, if we lived in some hypothetical world where a pitcher would never ever miss the hitter's ass every time he wanted to go "old school" or whatever....then fine. Still a dumb move (hey, let's put a guy on base!), but you're right....there's little to no chance of injury, if you agree with whatever his rationale is...then sure. We wouldn't be having this argument.

But in real life, pitchers miss their spots. And if there's still this mindset among pitchers that this is a normal thing to do to rookies, it's inevitable that some promising player is going to get hit in the wrist, or the knee, or god forbid the head. And the fact that pitchers are actually willing to take that risk is asinine in my opinion. I don't think anyone here really cares about the one singular act of Harper getting hit. What bothers people (or at least me) is that this practice actually exists.

Nope. Pitchers can decide if they want to send a message by hitting a player in his left ass-cheek or his right ass-cheek. They have impeccable control. Which is why batters never get hit with pitches unless the pitcher wants to hit them.

You understand that hypothetical arguments are legitimate tool of debating/arguing, right? Not everything is based off of some rigid, black & white notion of "we can only talk about what definitely did happen and not what didn't."

You realize that it's not some insignificant piece of info that he didn't get hurt? You realize that in your reality you have to assume that Hamels has no clue what he was doing with a baseball in his hand AND that he had a real intent to injure the kid rather than back him off/intimidate?

Quick, run to how it didn't intimidate or back him off!

Herp what it the ball wasn't a ball but a BOMB!? What if Harper was pregnant? What if he had the cure for cancer in that particular part of his body, science was ready to extract, but then the HBP moved it/dispersed it? What if Harper was an alien prince and that malicious attack launched an intergalactic war that humanity isn't ready for?

To join the cool crowd do I just have to stroll around calling anyone who dares disagree with me crazy, or without 30,000+ posts is that just known as trolling? Should I save my big opinion pieces for the movie or TV thread? Do I just have to generally hold a holier than thou attitude? WHAT'S THE SECRET?
