@Buster_ESPNBuster Olney

@BruceMiles2112Bruce Miles

@CarrieMuskatCarrie Muskat

I think Samardjzia would have to be the guy unless they call up someone from Iowa. Aside from last night, hes been very good, at least when he can find the strike zone. Russells emphatically proven that he has no business pitching more than an inning at a time, and I don't know what the other options are.

I don't even want to think about what happens if Garza has to hit the DL. All the Iowa starters have been bad. I guess Jackson would be the best option, because of the bunch, Diamond, Mathes, Bibens-Dierks, and Ortiz, Jax has the most potential to not be awful. Or do they just say [expletive] it and start the clock ticking on McNutt?

James Russell at Fenway... oh snap

Yes, by all means we should start the loogy who has proven that he has no business starting against one of the top offenses in baseball. Quade keeps getting better and better.

There's no good option here. I wouldn't expect the starter to go more than a couple innings (maybe three tops) so plenty of pitchers will be in the game. If Russell didn't start, he'd almost certainly have to go 1-2 innings or more anyway.

If they keep running him out there should Garza hit the DL, however, I start to disagree with Quade.

I'd probably go with Ortiz. Jackson is the last guy I'd call up since he's got some upside - he's been struggling in AAA and if he comes up and struggles in the majors it could shatter his confidence. Between Diamond, Mathes, Bibens-Dierks and Ortiz, I don't think there's much difference but Ortiz has pitched well so far at AAA. Might as well see if he can pull off a couple fluky good starts if Garza hits the DL.

McNutt's blisters probably keeps him from being considered for a callup. With him on a pitchcount, it'd probably be a better idea to ease him in at AA.

They should have just recalled Wells since is was going to start in Iowa anyway. I really don't see the difference between a final rehab start in Iowa and just coming up and making the start for the big league team. Obviously you couldn't expect him to be as sharp as normal or to go deep in the game but it can't be much worse that what they are going to throw out there tonight as an alternative and plus it would avoid decimating the bullpen.

How are one of the many aforementioned Iowa pitchers not starting tonight's game? The bullpen might be ruined after this one. Very poor decision by Cubs management.

Because Garza is likely only to miss this start and they have an off-day tomorrow.

Matt Garza could be headed to the disabled list due to elbow tightness, reports ESPN Chicago.It's already known that the Cubs will call up Luis Montanez from Triple-A Iowa on Tuesday, but a corresponding roster move hasn't been announced. Garza was scratched from Sunday's start against the Red Sox and initial reports said that he wouldn't miss another one. If the Cubs place Garza on the DL, they can make the move retroactive to May 17. May 24, 2:24 PM

[expletive] this season.
