You forgot the Big 12 guys...

 

To be fair, they're mostly just pushing the Illini fans' buttons to send them into endless frothy rants

I think Reggie Theus would do this well, Eddie Johnson, while not greasy, would work out as well. Stevens, Groce or even Smart wouldn't have had a chance with the CPL.

 

Robert Smith would also be able to lock down the CPL, Matta, Calipari, etc. wouldn't have a snowball' chance in hell if Smith was at the helm.

 

Eddie Johnson is less qualified than me.

Smith can't get Parker for us, from what I understand he promised he'd bring Parker with him. If he does that's an NCAA violation. Gee Robert, I wonder why you aren't a serious candidate.

 

Wrong, he's not allowed to have any of his kids if he was a video coordinator or one of those fake jobs Kansas hired all their recruits parents for. If he's one of 3 assistants or a head coach he can do whatever he wants.

 

That said the only person with less qualifications to be the head coach at Illinois is Eddie Johnson.

He can't promise he will bring a kid though by name. That's the issue. As I understand it.

So they basically fired Bruce Weber to hire a new Bruce Weber. That's a tough sell to the fanbase, although Thomas pursued the right 2 top names (Shaka & Stevens). Don't know why those guys wouldn't leave, I'm sure Chris Lowery wishes he'd have taken a high major job a few years ago.

No I wanted him to fire Weber, and replace him with someone better. Instead we're going to get another Weber. MAC Thomas needs to go.

 

So, the argument is that a better AD would have convinced Shaka or Stevens(both of whom who have rebuffed overtures from elsewhere in previous years) to come to Illinois? Or is it that Groce is somehow way worse than other candidates in mid-majordom?

[expletive] Mike Thomas. I hope you're all happy. We fired Bruce Weber to hire the coach of Ohio University. A guy that has finished 9th in the MAC two out of four years. This is abysmal.

 

Weber needed to go regardless of who MT hired. Weber lost the team, they quit on him. You can't get a team back once they've quit on you. This hire isn't ideal but it shouldn't make people jump off a bridge either. Give the guy a chance. I can't remember that far back but I'm guessing people weren't thrilled with the Bill Self hiring either.
