I'm sorry, but that's not a 22 win team. You're relying on a front court of Egwu/Shaw that have had very limited experience. Maybe 20 wins, but it'll be 20 wins like this year - .500 at best in the B1G.

I'd start Griffey at the PF, and you have noone to backup Egwu.

Depends. Can Egwu make the same leap that Leonard made? If he does anywhere close we will be decent. Abrams is going to be a lot better by next year. Having a good point guard will help out a lot. Mike Shaw is also our best rebounder. Leads the team in a wide marghin in rebounds per minute. Just because Bruce won't let a freshman play unless his hand is forced everyone assumes these kids suck. They don't.

Not saying they suck, just saying that very limited experience and it's not like they are ADavis or CZeller. As for Egwu-Leonard, didn't Egwu only play like 3 years of HS basketball? That's a lot of coordination/skill development to rely on.

He did, but Leonard wasn't much more experienced in his body. He grew like 8 inches after his sophomore year. I think a whole year playing against Leonard in practice will have done wonders for Egwu.

3 years in the CCL > Leonard's experience in the Soybean conference while being 6'4" until his junior year.

Is there any point in waiting until after the season to fire him? How do you run a practice after throwing half your team under the bus like he did last night? The team should wear Draymond Green and Robbie Hummel masks to practice today.

Why punish them by making them look like Robbie Hummel?

Yeah, he's earned not getting fired in the middle of the year. He's ran a clean program and taken us further than anyone else ever has. You only fire POS like Kelvin Sampson in the middle of the season.

Does this mean you think Draymond Green is dreamy?

Play better, you get to take it off.

Next year they get the DJ Byrd masks.

Not to mention it will drive away nearly every candidate.

they don't need him to be a great post player, like i said. they'll have good enough guardplay that all those guys need to do is rebound. shaw is a big, strong, athletic dude and egwu is pretty athletic.

if i were a new coach, i would think about bringing in DJ off the bench and having my playmakers start.

I agree. I'd probably start Abrams, Paul, Henry, Shaw, and Egwu. Bring Bert and DJ off the bench.

The problem is that most of the players on Illinois' roster have the same attitude. They all think THEY are the star player. If Paul is shooting all the shots Leonard isn't happy, yada yada. They pout, and ignore Weber. Hell, Weber flat said that Paul did not take the last shot he drew up last night (obviously).

What is Weber supposed to do? He can bench them for a while, but then they just transfer. Then the fans get pissed off. He's just let them do whatever they please for the most part.

Have you guys considered that these prize players Weber and Jerrance are recruiting might not all be great fits for a 'team'? You CAN blame the staff for that. Recruiting the best available athlete every time isn't always a great way to build a team.

I think the real problem is that you have no idea what you're talking about.

Pretty much. A good coach can make the pieces fit. You adjust to your teams strengths. I ran a motion offense in high school that was completely different between my junior and senior years because we had different strengths and weaknesses. It's not complicated, but he keeps running the same crap that doesn't work. He's clearly lost the players, and while that's partly on them, it certainly has more to do with the fact that Weber has failed to do his job well.

SSR what do you have against Romar? He's a solid coach.

He's a poor in-game coach, above average recruiter (aided in recent years by a massive downturn in HS prospects in California and the decline of Arizona, the only school that recruited the Pacific Northwest better than Washington). Also, it should be noted that Washington has a ridiculous homecourt advantage which reminds me of what you guys say about Indiana.

Romar has underachieved and Washington should have taken advantage of the extremely weak Pac-12 (just like every coach in the Pac-12 besides Mike Montgomery).

This thread has been a lot more fun the last 2 weeks!

I hope Cody Zeller gets hit by a bus

ETA: Not killing him, I'd never wish death on him, just paralyzed, not death.

Not in the face either, it would ruin that bus.

That's funny. This whole thing is funny. I don't have anything against Illinois. I hate Purdue, Wisconsin, and Iowa much more than I hate U of I. Hell, it was the best college campus I ever partied at. I just think it's funny how much you guys hate IU. It's like the White Sox fans, who didn't care that they didn't win anything for 70 years because the Cubs were so bad for most of that time.

I think if there's one thing to take away from this thread, it's that Illinois fans don't care if they win or lose.

i think it's obvious that we hate everyone because you are all a bunch of yokel jerks

Illini fans just hate themselves because they realize that Champaign-Urbana might as well be Indiana
