Lol at having to tell us it would be huge to get the top recruit in the nation two years in a row. Please explain why, lol.

I think it's because both are good at basketball. But I'll wait for further elucidation.

They'll both also star on our nationally ranked Spelling Bee team if we can land them

#1 2012 recruit Shabazz Muhammed and #1 2013 recruit Jabari Parker will be in College Station this weekend for official visits. I realize that they are both longshots (Parker's dad starred at A&M and his HS teammate Kendrick Nunn has already committed to the Aggies), but just the fact that they are taking officials to A&M is a big deal for our program. Get one or both of them and it would HUGE.

I think that Parker info is incorrect. I don't think he will be there this weekend.

ETA: you probably know this, but official visits can't take place until the senior year, so any visit by a 2013 or younger this year is unofficial, ie, the school cannot pay for expenses.

Kendrick Nunn announced on Twitter a short time ago that while he still likes A&M, he is re-opening the recruiting process. Not happy about this development.

That didn't take long.

For the record, would this qualify as HUGE?

VJ Beachem to Notre Dame a couple days ago...

Who knows what kind of conference we'll be playing in by the time he gets here. Good get by Brey though.

Apparently Indiana self-reported a secondary violation by Crean in the recruitment of Gary Harris and so now the IU message boards are lighting up with hysteria. :stickman:

the self-imposed sanctions are a tad harsh. if the infractions were any greater, IU might have had to force itself to buy the NCAA a coke.

Tim Abromaitis will have to miss 3 body-bag games (plus a game against a Detroit team that's apparently supposed to be Butler's biggest threat in the Horizon) due to playing in 2 exhibition games his sophomore year, then redshirting. Evidently the NCAA only allows you to do that if you're a freshman.

Stupid rule, but probably just as dumb a screw-up by Brey by not knowing it. At least he'll be back for the KC tournament.

Apparently there were 3,041 reported secondary violations last year overall. Unfortunately, this one being committed with Harris is going to make it more of a story.

The one thing that bothers me about this situation is that really this seems like a silly violation to even have happen. I mean those non-contact dates dictated by the NCAA aren't exactly top secret info or some obscure rule...one quick call to compliance and Crean could have verified the actual date. I mean yeah, Buckley gave him bad info but...maybe in the future Tom will hopefully call compliance first instead of relying on Buckley. :P

And less than half were committed by Indiana

In a vacuum, the violation is ostensibly irrelevant. It's a rather mundane rule and similar mistakes happen basically all the time across the country. The mistake was reported immediately. IU self-imposed a penalty that I'm guessing is, at least, equally stringent as other punishments for similar infractions. I doubt much, if any, a competitive advantage was obtained (it could theoretically even be viewed as a negative).

However, Crean/IU are not living in a vacuum. Crean's priority when hired -- along with winning, obviously -- was to restore credibility and integrity to a program that enjoyed both until the Sampson debacle. While mundane, the rule was not arcane; not open to interpretation; not nonsensical. Simply: on this day you cannot do what Crean did. And, yet, Crean was ignorant or negligent or careless. He didn't know the dates. He didn't program the dates into his computer. He didn't program the dates into his phone. His assistant didn't know the dates. His assistant didn't program the dates into his computer. His assistant didn't program the dates into his phone. It's embarrassing; hopefully it's not foreboding.

Allegedly Crean told Harris he knew he was not supposed to be visiting him.

In other news 2012 7' C AJ Hammons committed to Purdue tonight.

Hehehhe, I was going to reference the Bald Self "Hey John, I'm not supposed to be talking to you right now, but wanted to tell you great game"

3 freshman for Kansas don't qualify, including Ben McLemore.

Pity.

I'm not surprised about 2 of them. The Canadian kid was a bit of a shock, but he probably isn't good enough to play at KU anyway.

this will be a pretty tough year for KU hoops. Not a lot of depth.

A.J. Hammons is a real nice recruit for Purdue, by the way. He has great size and talent; he just needs to dedicate himself and work hard. And that's pretty much the modus operandi of the Purdue program.

I'm almost happier they got Hammons rather than Harris. Almost.

When he arrives next year, Purdue is going to be one of the tallest teams in the Big Ten. I can't remember ever thinking that.
