IU should take a big step out of the cellar this year....so that is exciting.

I'm not sure about a big step. Zeller coming in will definitely help and another year of experience will too. I think IU will win about 4-5 more games than they did this past season. That might keep them out of the bottom but many of the things that have plagued the last couple years will probably do the same this year. That's even more true if there is a transfer or two to accommodate the people coming in 2012. The one exception to this is if Creek comes back and just plays at a super high level again. That would really change the dynamics of the team but right now I don't see it happening. The real jump will come the year after that.

Assuming Tristan Thompson stays and the early word on Jordan Hamilton is that he will stay, Texas should be top 5 next season with a true PG coming into the picture.

It'll be interesting to see what happens over the next week or so as I think Iowa could end up anywhere between 5-10 depending on who signs. Cully Payne has officially announced he's leaving (no surprise), and I'm sure it has to do with Fran pressing hard to get a PG over the last couple of months. If Indiana can get the young ones on track early, I think it'll be a very fun league and mostly competitive from 1-9.

head's a guard.

I know. I don't think Richmond comes back. That, and with Head drastically improving, Illinois will start 4 guards a la Villanova in 2005-2006. Leonard is going to find himself in foul trouble a lot next year so Egwu is going to get immense amounts of playing time to prove himself. I'm excited to see what the freshmen can bring to the table next year, particularly Henry. I also hope Bruce doesn't start Griffey just because he is a junior.

DePaul WON'T be the worst team in the Big East next year. Progress.

Nope, they'll be the worst team in the Horizon League

I'm a bit ignorant on the topic, will this be because DePaul is good or another team is embarrassingly awful? It's hard to win less than 1 Big East game per season as DePaul has over the last 3 seasons.

Purdue will have the most length they've had in a long while. Losing 6' 10" JJ, but adding back 6' 8" Hummel, 6' 8" Donnie Hale, 6' 7" Jacob Lawson. 6' 5" Byrd won't have to play the 4 anymore. Guard play should be fine next year, I think Terone Johnson picks up his game, and Lewis Jackson will be a captain - Senior PG. Anthony Johnson has added muscle and will be an added scorer.

Biggest issue is going to be the 5. We've got Carroll/Marcius and a grab bag of PF's that may have to play minutes at the 5. I think I'm really going to like Lawson who is ripped (JJ's weight, maybe a little more, and 3 inches shorter) and extremely athletic - if he's recovered from his knee injury (sound familiar?). I would have no problem with a lineup having two 4's on the floor and letting Lawson play a shot blocking / rebouding role along with Hummel. Lawson's offensive game is extremely raw though. I'm expecting nothing other than put backs and dunks on that end.

I also think a key will be Purdue's leadership. LewJack, Ryne Smith, and Hummel are all vocal leaders.

DePaul should be better and Providence and South Florida should be putrid as well. I'm going out on a limb and saying DePaul has a chance for 12th (Seton Hall and Rutgers aren't great either).

Not next year, but they'll end up in the Horizon League in about 5 years. Would actually have a good chance of competing in that league. Butler, watch out...

Lawson has an achilles tendon injury he's recovering from. He's supposed to be ready, but I see them red shirting him anyway partly to get extra time to heal and partly because of the return of Hummel (Lawson committed before we knew Hummel would be playing in 2011-2012, obviously).

The 5 is going to be a lot of Carroll with Marcius backing him up. Bade could get some time there if Carroll gets into foul trouble. That's how I see it anyway.

GBI just posted an article yesterday saying Lawson is progressing way ahead of schedule. Not sure why I said knee before, yeah it's an achilles injury. Obviously Painter will want to have a look see in person. I think Hale will be a good shot blocker too. We really need a big in either 12 (if someone leaves) or 13 too.

I'm really wondering if Bade will walk. He can still take a year off and play two years at a smaller school where he'll actually play. I think Lawson and Hale will surpass him by the end of this coming year (if not much sooner) and he'll be the 4th 4 or 3rd 5 in the rotation. He might just be content getting a Purdue education and being along for the ride though. I will be pissed if Painter starts Creaning players. Bade is not very good at basketball but he seems to be a good kid and Painter offered him the scholarship.

GOTTA HAVE HAITH

Alden is getting destroyed down here for this.

There's a lot of people being idiots about the hire, I'm trying to pretend they are the intersection of Mizzou and Cardinal fans.

There's nothing to indicate he'll dump Bade or any other player.
