I'd love him as a starter but if he's not a guy who can regularly make 100 pitch outings lets cut our losses and put him back in the pen.

Oh come on.

Of course, we're not going to know any of this unless they try to make him a starter, so cutting losses now is premature, but he is right in the long run. If Cashner can't stay healthy as a starter, then obviously he should be in a pen.

"Hey Silv...have you read the papers lately? No? Oh...well that whole 'cut from the team' thing, that was all a joke. We've been looking all over for you since then. Sorry for the mixup. Can you start in 5 days?......wait...you've gained 40 pounds in a week?....and you did WHAT to a hooker?...umm....ok well just get over here, we'll get it straightened out with the cops."

Ever play the game Angry Birds? You know that sound the pigs make when you fail to take them out? Well Carlos Silva just made that noise, and he doesnt yet know why.

I read somewhere Wood and Marmol were out today but Marshall would be closing if necessary.

Hughes: word from clubhouse is "tightness in his right shoulder"

That's not encouraging.

Also, you'd think they could update this "1-800-The-CUBS" commercial to not have D-Lee in it.

Well, I'd have to imagine Wood and Marmol are unavailable today. Marshall had a shortened outing yesterday, but it was his third day in a row as well.

Looks like this is up to Samardzija, Russell, Mateo, and Grabow.

Marshall didn't pitch on Sunday so he's only thrown 6 pitches in the last 2 days. He'll be available for a while if the Cubs need. From what Quade said about yesterday's game, he was planning to pitch Mateo/Grabow/Marshall today anyway.

No reason spellcheck can't pitch in the 7th. Well outside of him not being very good.

If the Cubs are saying it is tightness in the shoulder, I expect Cash to be visiting Dr. James Andrews soon to schedule his season ending surgery.

Glad to hear I'm mistaken.

Cashner left with soreness in his shoulder per Levin Black of the Williston Herald when he wakes up from his nap in a couple of innings. Edited by UMFan83

Oh come on.

I'm serious. This isnt the first time he's struggled with higher pitch counts. Why do you think he's been on low pitch counts in the minors? They were trying to build him up slow. But if he cant handle the high pitch counts (and i'm not advocating pulling the plug on him starting now), then I think its not the worst thing if he were to head back to the pen.

Final line for Cashner:

5.1 IP, 2 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 SO

Please be okay.

From the pure optimist point of view, hopefully its nothing and Shark continues to have a great outing regaining confidence he had a couple of years ago and is no longer a complete waste of a roster spot.

What did Cashner leave with?

Right arm amputation.
