Quade loves talking to the media.

They all do at the beginning. The Chicago media has a way of wearing down it's managers fairly quickly.

Well, that was a weird game to be at. Hope Cashner's ok, didn't really see anything wrong when he pitched.

Many of the fans were screaming bloody murder at Russell batting, but there wasn't much else to be done there. Only 2 other pitchers available, and I think Quade did the best he could with the hand dealt him today. Bad luck that Cashner was out in the 6th after pitching so well. Obvious that Samardzija would be the first guy out of the pen before the 8th, and it really hurt that Mateo couldn't find the plate.

Also odd (but expected) that the only players that didn't see time in the game were Soto, Pena, Marmol, Wood and Grabow.

Aside from the injury, how did Cashner look today? I saw online his fb was comfortably in the 90s and his slider had some really nice low and away action to righties.

Here's hoping he makes a full recovery in a short amount of time.

Other than the HR to Roberts, he was absolutely on cruise control. He had the whole D-backs lineup off balance. That's why it was so odd when the trainer came out after no noticeable difference (aside from the walk, his only walk of the day).

Well, Mateo wasn't doing himself any favors, but he got squeezed in that AB.

Not just comfortably in the 90's; according to Comcast he was hitting as high as 97 and 98.

The park gun had him sitting around 94 and hitting 96, for what it's worth.

Thoughts from section 10, row 2, seat 5 today (yes, it was a great seat):

- Park continued to be kinda empty. Announced attendance was about 27,000 but there's no way it was that high

- Colvin looked serviceable at first base. Not great, but serviceable. He made all the routine plays, but he couldn't quite hold on to a few picks in the dirt that I think Pena probably would have made

- Castro continues to impress. Would have had a third hit but for the bullet he hit right at the third baseman in the first inning, and made some game-saving plays in the field, including the barehand play in the 9th.

- Cashner looked terrific before he left with the shoulder problem. Working quickly, threw strikes, working comfortably in the 90s all day, very encouraging before the injury.

- The bleacher fans have started standing and flapping their arms during Byrd ABs

- The loaded footlong hot dog/brat is worth every penny

I have a feeling they announce the tickets sold instead of the actual attendance.
