Unlucky for Pena today. Two hard hit balls and only a sac fly to show for it.

Is it unlucky when you are only hitting to 1/3 of the field and the defense plays to that 1/3 of the field? Or is it more of a typical outcome? He's just not a single's hitter. What's his AVG every year when you subtract balls that go over the wall?

I don't think it's very good. But, that he can hit balls over the wall is why he's probably worth his contract.

If you subtract his at-bats that resulted in homers, Pena hit .147 last season. For his career, it would be .189. I think I did the math correctly.

Im watching a live feed on the internet and they forgot to shut off the sound during the commercial and I am listening to Len have a private phone call with somebody. Nothing juicy but I hope one of them start talking about some girl in the stands or something.

If you do the same thing for Babe Ruth, his career BA goes from .342 to .281. I think that you can find similar drops for all power hitters.

This team is going to get eaten alive by the Yankees and Red Sox

Who cares, I'm just worried about how they fare against the Cardinals, Reds, and Brewers.

I'm watching the same on my iPhone through the MLB At Bat application. They just did the same thing this past inning with the "sideline" reporter letting the director know where he was and figuring out what camera would be on him.

.281 was a fairly respectable AVG in that era, even if a guy didn't hit HR's. That Carlos Pena is below .200 for his career is significant. I'm not knocking him here. I'm just pointing out that he will hit a lot of lasers that get caught. That you don't need any defense whatsoever at 3b or in LF allows defenses to limit the amount of balls that fall between them for hits. It's more of a typical outcome rather than him just being unlucky.

It wasn't Len. It was that Luke guy talking to the producer about where he was positioned so that they could get the camera on him for the interview at the beginning of this half inning.

The inning before it was Len talking about his 10 year old

Not sure I like Marshall in the 7th here, especially against Parra-PH-Bloomquist. It implies that either someone worse than him is pitching the 8th or 9th, or that Wood and Marmol are both going for the 3rd straight game.

Wait, they're only using Marshall for one hitter? Holy stupid.

Agreed and if we don't use wood in the 8th it likely means Grabow against Branyan....
