3-4 insurance runs would be nice, actually. Something that will be enough to have the coaching staff think "Hey, I bet Russell could probably finish this one out."

Wood is a beast.

If by giving up 5 baserunners in 2 games is a beast, then, yeah, he's a beast.

They better win this one because Marmol and Wood will be unavailable tomorrow. Probably Marshall too if Quade wants any of them to last past Memorial Day.

Samardzija for closer tomorrow!

Context is fun, aka I'm sure the errors were his fault, and he needs to more efficiently intentionally walk a batter.

He still gave up 3 hits. It's not like he's been invincible. If it were anyone other than Kerry Wood, the man love wouldn't be nearly as high.

But it was Kerry Wood. Therefore, Beast.

The End.

Man, I am falling in love with this team already. If they keep doing this, I am going to have a heart attack by June.

Are you one of those unconditional optimists?

No, but I think the division is our for the taking if this team gels like it has the ability to do. That being said, we could end up being crappy, but there are good signs thus far.

My feelings also. The starting pitching has been solid so far and the back end of the pen should be very good. If the offense can get going with Rammy and Pena having bounceback years, they could make the postseason.

I'm definitely more optimistic about this year than last year.

Pinch hitting for Pena with Reed Johnson? Really?

Are Peña's splits so severe that pinch hitting actually made any sense there? And we give up great defense at first with a slim lead to go to... who, Jeff Baker?

Hughes made it sound like Pena had fouled a ball pretty hard off his foot earlier. Maybe that was bothering him?

I'm not sure I'd pinch-hit some Cub starting pitchers for Reed Johnson. I think we could just leave the defensive 1B in the game, myself.

Even if they are severe, I think Pena's glove would be more important than the insurance run in this situation.

So, the Mike Quade honeymoon is officially nearing its end with me. Why must all managers feel the need to micromanage everything? Damn you, Quade, I really thought you were different.
