There is no reason why we shouldn't be killing Maholm right now.

No kidding. Has anyone other than Zambrano swung at a pitch and not made contact?

Now there is a line I've heard before, there's going to be a lot of copy pasting that line this season just change the pitcher's name.

Wait, we're supposed to fear Evan Meek?

Didn't the Cubs cream him his rookie year?

We did, but he's actually become pretty good.

When you creamed him, he was a rule 5 guy who had never pitched above AA ball. Last year he was a legit all star.

Way to work the count, Geo.

You'd think with a new manager who seems so competent there would be a new hitting philosophy, something along the lines of "work the count, idiots!", but alas, there is not.

Garza should sit in the bleachers on days he doesn't pitch.

Roast would have to eject him periodically, given the way he's been acting. I wouldn't put it past Garza to pick fights in the bleachers.

Notable Cubs free agents after this season:

Carlos Pena

Kosuke Fukudome

John Grabow

Kerry Wood

Options for 2012:

Aramis Ramirez

Jeff Samardzija

Signed through 2012:

Ryan Dempster

Marlon Byrd

Sean Marshall

Carlos Zambrano (with 2013 option)

Am I missing anyone?

Pena, Kouske, and Grabow are gone. Wood possibly, depending on this year. Shark's option won't be picked up and Rammy will probably hit FA.

If we don't get AP, Pena is back IMO.

That is a pretty big assumption considering we have no clue what kind of performance Pena will deliver this season. If we don't get Pujols, there is still Prince. The other intriguing situation is either Kila or Billy in Royal Land.

If the 2012 Cubs are going to compete next year, they will need a massive upgrade, and the only potentially available players I can think of who can make that happen are Pujols, Fielder, or King Felix. Perhaps David Wright.

Yeah just like David Patton. Oh wait. What the hell ever happened to that dude?
