Seems like a stretch for the Rangers:

Hamilton

Kinsler

N. Feliz

N. Cruz

A. Beltre

Andrus

CJ Wilson

Are those the 7? Seems like a high number but mostly lower tier guys

Michael Young instead of CJ Wilson and the rest is right.

5. Hamilton

51. Beltre

47. Feliz

63. Kinsler

67. Cruz

90. Young

95. Andrus

Elvis Andrus and his .670 OPS was in the top 100? I'll give him credit for the 64 walks drawn last season at age 21, but nothing else about his offensive game screams top 100.

Fielder's a lot lower than I would have assumed.

VORP is position-adjusted, so the number is relative to others at the position. So, a player that plays SS that had Fielder's stats would have a significantly higher VORP than Fielder does at 1B. So, whlie his numbers overall are pretty good in comparison to the rest of the league, he's just the 9th most effective 1B.

OK, that makes more sense than what I was remembering VORP as. Thanks.

What exactly was their criteria for the top 100? For example, what 4 players on the Orioles are top 100? For that matter, what good did it do them?

The Cubs probably make #4 on this list due to their division and the key injuries that the teams ahead of them have already suffered. In fact, without looking at the list, I'd guess there is one team from each division except for the AL East. In which case they probably picked (in no particular order) the Indians, Dodgers, Marlins and A's. Is that close?

FWIW, the Orioles have:

Roberts

Markakis

Mark Reynolds

Vlad Guerrero

So two guys that weren't even there last year, and another that was hurt most of the year.

yes in my fantasy world, Vitters will make it to the majors by next season and be the 29th best player in baseball with his amazing turnaround in plate discipline :)

I'll even go a step further and give us Matt Purke in the draft and put him at 85 on this list. :D

How many good teams typically have more than 3-5 top 100 guys?

I'm really asking. Having 3 up there and then a bunch on the cusp seems about right if you're not the Yankees or Red Sox (or sometimes the Phillies).

Giants had Lincecum and maybe Cain and they won it last year. Nobody really on the cusp. Who did the Padres have last year? Heath Bell, and nobody on the cusp. I don't think it's a requirement to have multiple guys in the top 100.

Yeah, that's what I was leaning towards. Having 3 top 100 guys is pretty damn good, and having more than that is pretty damn great.

Wouldn't three have to be average? or rather 3.3? Take out the outliers (yankees with 9 and astros with 0) and you still have an average of 3.25.

I don't know about that; I have a hunch he won't allow a single baserunner all year.

And no matter how outdated ERA is as a metric, having a 0.00 will look good on the baseball card.

Yeah, but -.-- or - doesn't look too appealing.
