I guess you (and others here) don't understand the last part about perspective.

i assume that you have been extremely wealthy and therefore are able to make judgments about what is and is not stressful for people who have a lot of money? because it sure sounds like you have perspective that none of us have.

We all have "stressful" situations in life but I understand my problems are not as bad as what some people are going through. It doesn't mean they are not stressful to me, but I carefully chose my words when talking about them to other people. Did Mrs. Pujols show any empathy toward the employees of the restaurant who will lose their jobs if it closes? Again, perspective is a key word.

I think it is funny that you have no problem judging my comments but have a problem with how I judge the comments of Mrs. Pujols.

Perspective is the key word, because yours is ridiculous. She's not saying, "OH, WOE IS US, OUR LIFE IS SO TERRIBLE, PLEASE PITY US;" in the context of their lives what they went through was stressful.

Mrs. Pujols' message rings awfully hollow since the stress she's describing is completely self-inflicted, and the byproduct of Pujols' own greed and pride.

Don't want to uproot your family and leave your community/foundation/restaurant/support network? Then don't. Re-up with STL. It's pretty simple. The Cards would have been thrilled to have him stay, and they gave him ~200M reasons to do so.

They chose the most money instead, which nobody is blaming them for. Just don't come at us with this sob story about what a hardship it is. They chose this path; nobody forced it upon them.

Funny. I thought she sounded self-important and whatever but you're so over-the-top in attacking her that I almost want to defend her.

Hah, I was thinking the same thing.

This is a righteously moronic post.

Really, where's the "sob story?" I keep reading it and I see someone explaining why her husband decided to sign with a different baseball team. The "stress" is reality to leaving behind their life in St. Louis; nowhere is she talking like it's some horrible thing that happened to them. She's talking like it's unfortunate that the Cardinals wanted to pay her husband RELATIVELY so little compared to what he's done for the team and what he's worth.

What's the line that wouldn't be acceptable? Obviously he could do just fine on a 100M contract too. Hell, with all the money he's made in his career, 10/20M would leave him quite comfortable. Would you begrudge the Pujolsi if they complained then? It's not up to you to decide when the Pujolsi can feel disrespected or stressed out by a team and city they've given a hell of a lot to.

And it's never EVVVVEEERRR the owner of the team who is being greedy. How could you Albert??? WALK AWAY FROM THE CARDINALS OVER MONEY?? YOU'RE SELFISH!!!

Never: HOW COULD YOU DEWITT?? LET THE BEST PLAYER IN TEAM HISTORY LEAVE OVER MONEY??? YOU'RE SELFISH!!

If the Cardinals were being totally unreasonable, or slinging mud, or trying to cast Pujols in a bad light, then I suppose I would be more sympathetic to their side.

I don't have any reason to believe anything like that was going on. They simply couldn't/wouldn't match the offer the Angels laid out. As well they shouldn't.

I think if he'd asked for this contract 4 years ago you'd be hearing a lot more of that. The fact that he wanted 10 years when he'll be 32 in the 1st year of the deal kind of takes some of the heat off ownership because that would have been a terrible business decision for the Cardinals.

I also think she should just shut the hell up, but Ballgame does make her a more sympathetic figure.

I don't fault Pujols one bit for being greedy, or selfish, or walking away from the Cardinals over money. Just own it. They're not.

These quotes from Mrs. Pujols make it sound as if the Cardinals gave Pujols no other choice but to leave, even though they never intended to and never wanted to. That's utter nonsense.

Isn't the whole story that STL had opportunities to lock him up in previous years but chose not to be serious with an offer?

Black & white davearm2 strikes again. You do realize what hyperbole is, right? You understand that she doesn't actually mean they literally had no other choice, yes?

They could have locked him up 2 years ago, a year ago or two weeks ago, but it would have cost 250+ mil no matter what.

Mrs. Pujols wasn't using hyperbole. Her implication was pretty clear.

Yes, the implication that the Cardinals weren't going to pay her husband anywhere near what he wanted so he went with a team that did. They wanted to stay in St. Louis, but only if the Cardinals offered a contract as dictated by his value as a player and his history with the team. None of these things are outlandish, wrong, or a "sob story."

That's not the way I read it.

I read it as, "we really wanted to stay, but the Cardinals gave us no choice but to leave." I've got no sympathy for that perspective. In fact I think it's laughable.

Pujols followed the money, just like most athletes do. That's perfectly fine. Just don't try and dress it up as something it's not.

Yes, that is the context; we're talking about Albert Pujols: maybe the greatest hitter of all time. In that context a 5 year/$130 million deal IS insulting. She shouldn't have to clarify to anyone with a functioning brain that she's talking about being "insulted" on a rich people's problems-scale.

"they gave us no choice" is just a dramatic way to say "we didn't like their offer."

I mean, why is this even a conversa -- *sees davearm's name* -- oh

Did I miss some quotes from DeWitt complaining about the situation?
